Quickness from the air sphere is weird with alacrity.

Tests done in the training area with the 50% boon duration trait and no boon duration on the equipment.
Activated sphere on air and waited.

Without Alacrity I have 17s quickness when the sphere ends.
With Alacrity I have 9s quickness after the sphere ends, and the boon timer jumps from 7 to 4.

I think the reason it says it's tied to the weapon skill fire fields and since the jade sphere is not a weapon skill it does not effect the trait. Which basically makes this trait useless if you run hammer since the weapon skills generate no fire fields.

It seems like the splash damage from Shattering Ice is requiring line of sight to the target for some reason? In WvW, I've tried to activate the utility skill and drop a Meteor Mhower, then Lightning Flash behind cover. The meteors do damage as normal, but I get a bunch of "obstructed" ticks from what should be Shattering Ice procs.

The fire field from tempest overload triggers it though, doesent it?

Nope. I tested this on tempest recently in preparing my future catalyst build. It only works on the skills affected by the duration increase (so weapon skills and conjures). It would be nice if it affected all fields, and it would also be nice for hammer to get its own fire field (slot 4 would be perfect).

I don't believe that it's alacrity that's doing this, I've tried with fury from the console as well, and it feels like when reapplying boons from the console, it also strips one(?) stack of quickness, making it last for much less longer than intended. I asked a friend to provide alac to me while on the golem to make sure it wasn't alac that was stripping the quickness. So I feel like this is more of a general bug tied to the console than to the Catalyst itself (although it makes it hard to test quickness uptime x dps on the golem with the spec)

 

Also I agree that the sphere mechanic feels bad in an opener. In raids, when you /gg or die, your energy gets reset to 0, and you most likely won't have an opportunity to refill it (unlike druid), so you'll have to rebuild all your energy at the beginning of the encounter meaning that you won't be able to provide quickness, if that's the role you're given. This feels especially bad compared to all other quickness providing classes and I don't feel like it's intended. Maybe Catalyst needs to refill energy on /gg ? At least, there needs to be a way to refill it out of combat
