wheelsonheels.1937
I got over 30 toons, am running in windowed mode and I have disabled the dx11 mode. My game just goes poof. No error message, or crash message. The games just closes instantly like it was never even open.
Forgotten Legend.9281
fullscreen 2650x1600 16:10 ratio, 71 characters, deleted all addons and turned off all programs that offered overlays. still got the crash before character select screen came up. bug report window came up everytime, noting bgfx errors, sent in the bug reports. did the -dx9 to turn off dx11, then went back to normal. turned dx912pxy back on because base game runes too slow now. i guess the updates over the past few months have really hurt the framerates, as i went from high 40s (running dx912pxy) to low 30s standing still, and zerg fights became impossible. i will be waiting for DX11 improvements b4 trying deleting the addon again. and no, i can't stand 1080p 16:9 ratio. Prime.1269
Less than 30 characters, no add-ons, no overlays, dx11 enabled, windowed fullscreen, up to date gpu drivers. Game freezes in group fights in Thunderhead Peaks events. Windows closes it after a while, but no client crash error popup. ChronoPinoyX.7923
From what I'm seeing here, seems like the common factor that people are saying is that they were playing windowed full screen, which is something I was doing as well though when I crashed, I was able to get back in-game. Any chance they can look into that scenario @Fire Attunement.9835? I'm actually stress testing right now to see if it's a potential definitive factor that plays into the crash and going into densely populated areas with max character renders enabled and such. Raenal.8035
I'm getting this same issue as well - Tried some of the solutions suggested above but that hasn't worked. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game (after deleting the local.dat file) and it only redoes the local.dat file and then doesn't go further. just drops back into the 0kb crash loop. Bruized.3820
Tried everything on this forum. Uninstalled GW2 and attempted to reinstall. Now the installer does the same thing as the launcher did (downloads its own update and then closes). Can't even reinstall GW2 now.
Flacki.3075
What i just thought to myself. The first crashes started for me after the Beta launched and people started popping into our squads and maps with the new specs. Might some of the particle effects on the new abilities be a culprit for this, as the crashes do have the typical signature of a memory leak induced crash. Unitl the new specs showed up i had zero crashes, especially as all the mentioned conditions in the original post do not apply to my case (and many others as reddit and this post do show). Ehaw.5831
Crashing on Verdant Brink quite often. No overlays, less than 30 character slots. Doesn't error out, just freezes.
Crimtheann.5439
Funny enough for me I don't crash instead attempting to start dx11 is instead just not starting and unchecking itself. At first I crashed just the same as everyone above. Not sure what's up on my end or what's going on but I'll keep seeing if there is anything I can do. Zero.5671
Possible point of interest for the dev debugging this: Happens to me as well, but interestingly only when I run the client in a sandbox (I don't like giving programs full access to my hard drive, I've had ransomware and buggy installers that try to delete my home directory far too many times to trust anything). No crash prompts, no error message, no screen flashing, the .exe launches and simply exits less than a second later. Deleting Local.dat does nothing. The issue started happening immediately after my client restarted ("New build available. Your game will restart in ...") and downloaded the latest build, so it's caused by something that just got introduced. Donari.5237
What does the -dx9 command do, exactly? Is it to force the game back to DX9 so we can then avoid using DX11, or does it somehow make DX11 work when toggled on? I really would like to try DX11 out, I'm seeing a lot of glowing reports, but only if I can actually play the game with it on. I did the local.dat delete trick and have the game working sans DX11 for now.
Kantharr.2308
I'm also having this issue. Roxory.9854
Having the same issue, 2 computers are crashing soon after the launcher window opens, one computer seems to be running the beta fine >> tried EVERYTHING on the other two including clean installs but now the install launcher will not open fully either so I cannot reinstall on two cpu's >> all other game running fine. Seems that my oldest cpu with the lowest quality graphic card is working and running the beta if that helps

Silph.5976
Several WvW crashes after roughly 20-30 min playtime each (by feeling, didn't have an eye on the clock). Way less than 30 chars. Running completely unmodified GW2 with no overlays or other programs that hook onto the GW2 executable. Latest gpu drivers. Since dx11 is causing text to not render properly, i still use dx9. Lowest possible graphic settings. Tried 60Hz and 60fps (ingame and later on gpu driver level) as well as true fullscreen and windowed fullscreen. Writing this mainly for the statistic. darksome.1697
2 hours ago, Fire Attunement.9835 said: Those of you who are crashing without the circumstances I listed above, thank you for letting me know. I'm passing the information on! I don't have dx11 enabled either, less than 30 characters, no overlays or add-ons of any sort, pure GW2 nothing else, running fullscreen - not windowed - and I crash about once every 30 minutes. No popup, no error message, nothing. Just bam - game is gone and I'm on the windows desktop. After starting the game up again 3 times during a two hour play session (no computer reboot, just restarted the game again), the game gets very sluggish, to the point where panning the camera around your character will make it stutter. Mirth.3204
I have 10 characters and was playing in full screen mode, as far as I know. Game wouldn't load so, not knowing about this bug and assuming it was a corrupted file, I uninstalled the game and downloaded the installer. The installer downloaded fine, but will not run. I ran DXdiag, and it says I'm running DX12 with no issues. I tried adding the command line arguments with no luck. The only overlay I had was through Discord, which wasn't even running at the time. I turned that off. The installer still will not run. Update: I turned my Microsoft Trend off and the installer ran. I didn't have to do that when I installed the game previously. The launcher is running the download. When it's done, I'll turn the antivirus back on and see if it runs then.@Fire Attunement.9835 So, I downloaded the game again, and ran it without an issue. Logged out, turned on my Trend Micro security, and the game would not start. I couldn't bring up Trend's main console, and Trend was acting bugged, so I restarted. Got the console up, added GW2 to Trend's exceptions list, and it would not start. Added the -perf and -windowed, not starting. Turned off Trend Micro, and the game works perfectly. There's some kind of conflict between the anti-virus software and the launcher which was not a problem before. I didn't have GW2 in my exceptions list before. Thanks to @Mirus.8059, added the entire GW2 folder to Trend's exception list, and now it seems to be working perfectly. Grootella.1270
I have les than 30 characters, and I disabled discord, but it won't even download the patch for me. I click on the GW2 icon and it pops up for a second then goes away. My task manager says the game is not on in the background. I have no idea what is going on, I can only assume you guys are fixing the patch now and that's why it will not load. My exec file is the GW2-64.exe file, if it helps. There is a weird Read me file in my GW2 folder thast is dated yesterday "THIRDPARTYSOFTWAREREADME.TXT FOR GUILD WARS 2" about some Fast LZ compression algorithm, anyone else have that? TinyKitten.3064
I have two accounts.... one with 5 characters, one with 69. The one with 5 characters does not crash, the one with 69 does, REGARDLESS if I put the game in windowed, fullscreen windowed or fullscreen. Looking at the crash log, it is almost certainly a UI bug. UPDATE: It worked once. On subsequent tries all text in the game are a smudged rectangle of mostly blues and purples. Ethuil.9426
I have discovered additional source for the crash at start up. Running the game with parameter "-mapLoadinfo" causes crash on launch with this error and log: Assertion: bgfx::isValid(m_handle) 22:58:06Z More than one view in the "ui_LoadingInfo" addon have the id ""; ids must be unique. This happens if you run the game with parameter directly or if you have it in "%appdata%\Guild Wars 2\Settings.json". Removing this flag and disabling feature of map info when loading fixes the crash. Edit: Disregard that, seems it was a fluke, it still crashes. Edit2: No more crashes for me after last character selection related update. Edited September 21, 2021 by Ethuil.9426
Ziggityzog.7389
So... I know this topic has been posted. Just curious when they will actually let us know how to fix it / start the game to play. As soon as I click the game it looks like it's downloading a update then it crashes and closes.
