Mirus.8059
I launched the game to update it to get the latest patch with DX11. It launched for about 10 seconds as I could see it downloading the new launcher. It then just terminates. I started the game again and can see in task manager it ran for about a second, then just terminated. I Uninstalled the game, deleted the game directory, deleted the GUildWars2 folder in appData and the My Documents areas, deleted all files in the temp directories. I then downloaded a fresh installer from the website. I can see in task manager that the installer launches for a second and then just immediately terminates. Mirth.3204
I posted this on a different thread. Maybe this will help you as well: I have 10 characters and was playing in full screen mode, as far as I know. Game wouldn't load so, not knowing about this bug and assuming it was a corrupted file, I uninstalled the game and downloaded the installer. The installer downloaded fine, but will not run. I ran DXdiag, and it says I'm running DX12 with no issues. I tried adding the command line arguments with no luck. The only overlay I had was through Discord, which wasn't even running at the time. I turned that off. The installer still will not run. Update: I turned my Microsoft Trend off and the installer ran. I didn't have to do that when I installed the game previously. The launcher is running the download. When it's done, I'll turn the antivirus back on and see if it runs then. So, I downloaded the game again, and ran it without an issue. Logged out, turned on my Trend Micro security, and the game would not start. I couldn't bring up Trend's main console, and Trend was acting bugged, so I restarted. Got the console up, added GW2 to Trend's exceptions list, and it would not start. Added the -perf and -windowed, not starting. Turned off Trend Micro, and the game works perfectly. There's some kind of conflict between the anti-virus software and the launcher which was not a problem before. I didn't have GW2 in my exceptions list before. 1
Palador.2170
Same problem here. Start launcher, it starts then closes. If this is an anti-virus issue, I'm not turning mine off to fix something the devs need to address.

Well, wouldn't you know, I'm using TrendMicro Antivirus as well. I did disable it but it still wouldn't work. However, if you have trendmicro and so do I... at least it's a common denominator. Grootella.1270
Hey, I have Trend Microsecurity too. I just turned it off and guess what is loading. And now I am in, on all three of my accounts. God, I love it when we put our heads together and find the problem before ANet does! Mirus.8059
OK, I think we have a culprit here. I disabled TrendMicro antivirus, but that didn't work. I then added an exception for my GuildWars2 folder and continued to have antivirus turned off and then it worked. I then tried and enabled antivirus on trend Micro again, and it seems to be working correctly now. So, it does appear Trend Micro is causing the issue. Hopefully my exception for the folder will work, and Arena net can find a cause/fix for it.
Tylendyl.6371
This was it! Trend Micro was the Culprit! Disabling and adding exceptions to the folders was the fix. You guys rock!
Fianan.5127
Yep, the Trend Micro exception idea worked!!! 😄

draxynnic.3719
Also Trend. Disabled it, but was still having the problem, but I think we've found the common factor here. My OTHER computer, which isn't using Trend, is still running Guild Wars 2 fine. PS Yep, putting it in exceptions seems to fix the problem. Note that if you're in a position of reinstalling, you'll also need to put the installer into a folder that has an exception. TheQuickFox.3826
You may want to report it to Trend Micro so they can remove this false positive.

GeeWhiz.6540
I got it to work yesterday by adding gw2 to the Trend Micro exception list. It worked and I even played it this morning. Then a new build came on. Now it won't work and adding it back to the exception list has not helped. I am going to try turning off Trend Micro, but I hate that as a "fix". Update: So after nothing else worked, I turned off Trend Micro. Then everything worked fine. I hate turning my AV on and off. I hope that they figure out something soon. Edited September 23, 2021 by GeeWhiz.6540
