Whats stats should I use on a Caladbolg Orchida Greatsword?

Recommended Posts

I currently have a Ranger.  I play PVE as a Druid, but I recently unlocked SoulBeast.

I'm tempted to make by Caladbolg ascended sword into either Maurader, or Celestial.  I understand that Berserker is often meta, but I seem to die too frequently when I equip Berserker gear.

Another class I am interested in playing is Guardian.  Would Celestial or Maurader be a bad choice for a Guardian?

Basically, I was hoping a veteran could offer me some suggestions.  I'm hoping to start using the weapon soon, but I'm not sure how to stat it.

Since GS for both, ranger and guardian, is a power-based weapon, out of the two you should go with Marauder (since it's basically Berserker with training wheels).

Or simply go with Berserker and mix'n'match the rest of your equipment with Marauder stats, until you feel comfortable and slowly start exchanging to Berserker later when you're more comfortable.

If you're going power - berserker's.   If you have trouble with staying alive, try changing up your build a bit rather than using defensive gear.  For example, signet of stone is passive toughness and a panic button that you can swap out once you get more comfortable with full dps gear.  The problem with defensive gear is that you kill slower, take more chip damage, have to dodge more mechanics, etc. and the increase in survivability from a bit of stats is not worth it compared to the reduced killing speed.  Besides, it is free to change skills, traits or trait lines.  Most ascended gear swaps cost gold and you might as well start getting comfortable with good gear.

Although the calabolg is a special case that if you really absolutely insist on defensive stats on your weapon, it's ok because you can swap the stats (and weapon type if you want) for just a bit of living story season 3 currency.

True, but that's sort of an edge case.  And I think the classification of greatsword as a power weapon is still true - none of the necro greatsword skills directly apply any damaging conditions and they all have pretty decent power coefficients.

While it's possible to make a Condition Reaper, I strictly mentioned Greatswords.

Reaper's Greatsword doesn't have a single damaging condition on it, so it's obviously intended for power DPS.

Well, Reaper GS auto has chill which is a damaging condition when specced for condi reaper (yes, I'm well aware that that's the last reason for playing power reaper).

Anyway, before the nitpicking goes on, I just wanted to point out that there are outliers to the "all GS are power based" quote that easily implies that everything besides zerk/marauder has no real use.

@Woobli.6820: don't forget you can't really do anything wrong with asc. weapons since attribute swaping through the mystic forge is quite cheap

Both classes you mentioned use GS as a power weapon. This makes Marauder's your best choice is you find zerkers too glassy.

Without knowing the rest of your build/gear setup this is about the best advice that can be offered.

But...

This weapon can be stat and form reset at any point for 1000 unbound magic.

Figure out what works best for you. 1k unbound is peanuts. It's not a permanent choice.

Celestial gear works for soulbeast, but not on greatsword (dagger mainhand, primarily - alternatively, sword). Marauder stat is the one you're looking for. Same goes for guardian (who has even lower health pool than ranger).

Are you asking as per greatsword stat line, or in general? Generally speaking, celestial gear works great on firebrand (guardian e-spec), and I can see it working fine on core as well. For dragonhunter I'd gear marauder/berserker, every time.
