DX11-Is there a place to get help?

Recommended Posts

Option 1: Activating and deactivating DX11 is not a complicated or difficult process, you just check a box in the options menu and restart the game. So if there's any problems you can just turn it off again and restart. You can do that from the character select screen without logging into a character.

Option 2 (if you aren't able to do option 1): If for some reason you're having so many problems that you're not able to get to the options menu to turn it off you can contact Customer Support through the website (link at the top of the page) and ask them to do it for you.

Players cannot fix bugs with DX11 any more than we can fix any other bugs with the game and no one should expect you to try. But it just affects the visuals, even if you do get every bug that's been reported so far the worst that will happen is that various effects look wrong and the game crashes frequently. If that happens the only thing you need to do is turn DX11 off and when you restart it will go back to normal.

Alternatively wait until it's out of beta and Anet have fixed the problems. That's why it's an opt-in beta instead of an update to the whole game, so people who don't want to deal with unfinished features don't have to.

You can always turn it off. Relax. Technology does not work this way. You cannot break your game. If you get crashes or glitches you can always revert to the normal renderer. And at worse you can always reinstall the game from scratch. There is nothing with using a different renderer that would make any permanent damage. You just deal with it as with any other bug that the game might have.

Option 3: you can put a -dx9 switch in your GW2 shortcut:

Right click on your gw2 shortcut, select "properties', select second tab ("shortcut" - should actually show up as default tab). In the "target area" field you will see something like: "C:\Program Files\Guild Wars 2\gw2-x64.exe"

Just add the -dx9 switch after that, so the end result is

"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars 2\gw2-x64.exe" -dx9

And now you have dx11 turned off, can open the game and manually deselect the dx11 checkbox (after which you can either remove that switch, or just leave it as it is until all dx11 issues get ironed out)

(the exact path and executable name in the "target field" can vary depending on your system and where you have GW2 installed - you just leave it as it is, and add the switch at the very end, with a space just before it)

You should actually try out option 3 before option 2, because that's what support is likely to suggest you do anyway.

Notice, that -dx11 switch also works, so you can also copy the original shortcut, add the -dx11 switch to it, put the -dx9 in the original one (or just leave it as it is), leave the dx11 checkbox in options UNchecked, and have two options for running the game in case you want to switch on the fly between those two modes.
