Untamed: More functions, less control

What I like

1. Pets target an enemy for attack when you attack even without striking the enemy

2. Pets change target when you change target and attack even without striking the enemy

3. We can now control when pets use their attack skill

What I don't like

1. Pets change target when you change target and attack even without striking the enemy which basically means you can't attack two separate enemies

2. Attack command for pet was remove

3. Return to me has to be clicked for it to work

4. F5 unleashed pet makes pet lose their attack abilities

6. Without return to me there is no way for us to interrupt our pets from casting a move if we suspect a dodge.

5. I might want my pet to automatically use his attack abilities without me pressing a button

Recommendation would be to add Attack My Target/ Return to me to the Misc. control option in setting. We already have Ranger Pet Combat Toggle in MISC.

Remove F5 for this spec and combine [Venomous Outburst] + [Rending Vines] as an F1 skill for all pets in this trait line. The other pet skills will be F2, F3, F4.

Combine [Enveloping Haze] with [Mutate Conditions] and increase the cool down and field duration and replace it as a utility skill.

We currently have two modes we can set Pets on Avoid Combat and Guard. We need a third mode which basically let's us toggle which skills we want pets to automatically use.

Change the way Attack My Target works. Now when you use Attack My Target you can attack a separate target and pressing F1-F4 focuses on the target that was set by Attack My Target. Return to me stays the same, but additionally it removes the Attack My Target and has Pet switching targets with you.

Just want to point out F4 is pet swap, so no matter what we have an issue unless they add extra F keys.

That is, even if you took F5 out, the pet still has 3 controllable skills (F1-F3) and the F4 swap.  There would be no way to alter this without messing up the F2 that's ingrained into all of us.

What I mean by that is if F1 was made back into 'attack my target', then F2-F4 are the controllable skills and F5 the pet swap...only other way is if everything left as is and F5 becomes 'attack my target'.

In either case we lose the entire leashed/unleashed mechanic...and have nothing more than a pet-controllable core ranger.

I also don't love messing with mutate conditions, other than make the activation animation a bit shorter.  Making it into a utility skill means we lose the ability to position it with the pet, and increasing the CD means it is borderline unusable (for reference, a Druid gets a full condition clear with no catches every 10 seconds).

Do agree about marking which skills the pet should just use on its own.  I'd add to solve the above problems they need to add an F6 and F7:

F1-F3 - Pet skills (with auto-cast ability)

F4 - Swap

F5 - Unleash Mode

F6 - Attack My Target

F7 - Return to Me

I get this breaks their mold of only going up to F5, but they really have to on this spec or we lose too much in the way of pet control.

As long as they make it multi-keybind-able, then we can just make it CTRL-F1 - Attack My Target & CTRL-F3 - Return to Me.

I think more and other keys will be too complicated to use them effectively. My suggestion from another thread

To fix just the Pet and its controls, anet could:

- give the F1 pet teleport an additional attack option and if teleport reloads, F1 is just the normal attack my target.

- give the F3 spore-cloud-shield an teleport back to the ranger option. If it reloads, it is the normal "come back"-F3.

- Out of Unleashed mode: F1 get the "attack my target"-function in addition to the attack. F3 get the "come back" option in addition to a nice "leaving" effect (maybe a combo field for each pet).

And maybe anet can just balance the other 90% of pets (especially the F2 skills), that are really bad. I'm looking on you, piggy.

But that is not the only change, the untamed needs.

Edit: Just what Scynte.1340 wrote 🙂
