would mech customisation not have been better in it's own window?

Just putting this forward, but would it not have been better to have had the mech customized via a pet menu rather than through specialization traits? This method would of course have allowed for a much more customizable pet while not creating limitations through the trait line.

After all, doing this would have allowed you to customize the pet freely in the pet window as well as allowing you to customize your own interactions with that pet through the traits.

The "traits define the mech skills approach" is a gimmick. It is just there to attract people by being "new, refreshing and innovative".

I agree, it would be better to be able to customize the mecha through a pet window and then have more freedom in build crafting by getting traits which are not limiting us as much.

But the entire elite spec just exists to draw attention. The system achieved this. That's all there is to it....

I agree, like in the current state they should have done one of these two options:

Option A;

What you posted, having the mech customizable via the pet menu, allowing to swap in the mech commands we do desire.
They should also increase mech commands to 4 instead of only 3. They should also add at least 2 mech commands that are stunbreaks for us and 2 that are condition clears for us.

Option B.

Make each mech command linked to our utility slot currently equipped, making it a true replacement for the toolbelt instead of whatever we currently have. Likewise we should have 4 mech commands here and there should be stun breaks and condition clears on some of them

Edit: And also they should have given us 3 mechs to pick from;
One that's power stat based
One that's condition stat based
One that's support stat based

So we actually could have interesting traits that  affected us and were interesting....

Wrote something similiar in the feedback thread, but your ideas are even better.

The only limtation I see with choosing mech commands from a pet menu is probably a small pool of different commands.

Also it would put mechanist in a unique spot of having up to 9 (?) selectable utility skills.

They specifically wanted to distinguish Mechanist from Ranger. And having 3 mechs with some choices might be a bit too much for their liking.

On the other hand: having 3 "base types" of mechs, each customizable via traits could be extremely interesting.
