Dying Oblivion.8296
same thing happening with me. Unfortunately running the game as admin didnt fix the problem. Running the game normally causes it to freeze on the loading screen. run as admin causes the game to CTD with the crash/error reporting window popping out. --EDIT-- adding -DX11 as a command line seems to have worked Edited November 10, 2021 by Dying Oblivion.8296

Demon Pie.2634
I have the same problem but now it has gotten worse. My computer now won't even restart and gets stuck on restarting screen. Had to hold down the power button. This has already happened twice.
Aduin.2307
I've the same problem, game crash a lot of times and having many issues to log in again. Leaving an instance or changing map cause 80% of times a crash. Since the patch, I can't change my settings, when I try it's an instant crash and back to windows. Winterbay.1785
From my experience the problem isn't that the computer locks up. It's that the mouse input is ignored. The keyboard seemingly still works (so you can kill the program by doing ctrl+shift+ESC, pressing tab until the name field is selected, press down until you are on the Guildwars entry, pressing tab again until you're at exit program and pressing space to kill Gw2). It's still a faff though 😊
Nexus.8719
Force your DX mode via command line switch via your shortcut. I have to force with -dx11 as -dx9 is busted for mine. Others on reddit are reporting that they must run with -dx9 and -dx11 is busted. I'd suggest trying with one, and if that doesn't work, try the other. Alasdair Weasley.3821
Game won’t start after the November 09 2021 patch. I can hear the music but no visuals, have to shut down PC to get out if the game. No error bug or anything. Takes three(3) tries to get in game with visuals. I've tried the repair suggestion from Anet on google, and the windowed suggestion, that didn't fix the issue. The issue is in the game update, nothing we do will correct it. I see this is a program error, and they are working to fix the issue. Personally I feel it helps the tech folks to see this is a massive issue and is effecting their client base, maybe do a pre program roll back till they get the last roll out update repaired? ~Peace~ Edited November 10, 2021 by Alasdair Weasley.3821 Added text

kungfuchknoodle.5360
When I first searched for a solution to the no screen but music bug, I came across a fix that involved copying a file called something like 'd3d9.dll' from the system32 folder into one of the guild wars folders. Apparently some other program had replaced or deleted it for the poster. I tried this, and it worked initially, but the next time I tried running the game, it happened again. Checked the gw2 folder, the file is still there, so while the bug is the same, and the fix initially worked, it doesn't seem like its quite enough. Compatibility mode worked, and switching to dx11 and then switching off compatibility mode still worked, at least for now. But it seems like it is almost definitely dx related, and since some people seem to have serious issues with the dx11 settings :I

Tasriel.6784
I submitted a ticket to Anet as I was having the same issues and nothing worked for me and this was their response. Chiisai (Guild Wars 2 Support) Nov 10, 2021, 4:32 PST Hello, At this time, we are currently aware of this issue and our QA and development teams are looking into it. Future updates regarding this will be posted on the official forums. Please do not hesitate to let us know should you have any additional issues, questions or concerns. That should help the Dev Team as I have been told they are looking at what works for people. They are still trying to narrow down the cause of the problem to be able to fix it. It does take time and they are sorry for all the inconvenience but are very appreciative for all the feedback and the patience. We live up to the GW2 Community standards of being the nicest players out there. We know Anet WILL solve this. We just need to continue being patient. Thank you to all for your feedback. Different things have worked for different people from adding -windowed or -dx11 to the command line all the way to using Windows Compatibility Mode. If none of the things suggested here have worked for you even temporarily, or your experience has been completely different, please submit a ticket with any information you can submit that will help with the diagnosis. BUT.. If it is the same as everyone else (log into the launcher no problem but when you enter the game it does not load or is seemingly invisible as you can hear the music but not click on anything on the desktop as if you are in the game) then there is no need to submit a ticket as a patch will be released once Anet's Dev Team nails down the issue and comes up with a Permanent Fix. Just keep your eyes on the GW2 forums for any updates on this issue. You can also keep an eye on GW2 Twitter. I am not part of Anet but have been reading the forums and going by my own experience with GW2 for 9 years as well as past experience moderating forums (not these) I thought I would post this to address a few consistent questions I have been seeing throughout this thread and 2 others in a different section of the GW2 Official Forums. . Anet has said they are working on this as well as they have said they are keeping an eye on the forums and paying attention to what works for people as well as responding to all tickets submitted. However, let's try not to bombard them if we have the exact same issue everyone else has as we are already aware that they are already aware and working on the issue and in due time a fix will be released. You are not alone in this but as you can see by all the pages of posts, a lot of people are experiencing the same issues. Shinavast.1328
I don't know if its been answered or not (there's 19 pages in this thread...) but i had this same issue and the following worked for me: I was having the same issue where I would fire the game client, CPU suage would SPIKE to 97-100%, i would get audio in the game client window that was consistent with character select screen, but no video. Moreover, not only could i not alt-tab out, i couldn't interface with anything (no right click, no clicking on anything period, etc). I ultimately had to hardboot several times to get my rig to respond. This worked though and i was able to play without any issues immediately after i did this. NOW... before you do this. please understand that this will reset your hardware settings but you will also need to re-enter your login credentials if they are saved (this should only take you about 30 seconds if you're like me and forgot them and had to reset them, but still). However as soon as you fire up the client again, the folder will be re-created and populated. Hit windows key. type "run" - hit enter type %appdata%/Guild Wars 2/ Delete this folder. Fire up the client, sign in, and hit play. The client SHOULD execute as normal. You may have to go in and adjust your hardware settings to your personal preference rather than the software's detected automatic settings, but you can do that as normal in the settings menu. Good luck, hope it works for you all! :) HAPPY UPDATE DAY. :D
