Nov 12 World Restructuring Beta Delay

Recommended Posts

No surprise really after how the first beta went. It seems it was far from ready for Public testing back in September, but at least it shouldn't happen again, right?

Hopefully the next beta early next year will go smoothly, with more time being spent on the issues you found, instead of rushing it out.

It sadly means more months of this flawed Server linking system and Server population algorithm, which is just not working well in the EU anymore.

Alliances when?

I really do like to read " legacy code " on blog/dev post from time to time. As an Ops guy in a DevOps consultancy company I really hate this being a "main" core function of every project and company that I work for. I know refactoring a game of this propotion would take years and maybe by the time you'd get there you'd have new legacy code somewhere else.
Welp.

Good luck. That's all I can give as a supportive member, game enthusiast and infra/sysadmin wannabe.

Cheers lads.

Just the other day, you said you had a 3-4 week pipeline AFTER things had passed QA testing, "Add a healthy portion of testing, bake for 3-4 weeks in our release pipeline (the average time from the moment something is finished and ok-ed to be released, to actually being in a release)" https://en-forum.guildwars2.com/topic/104393-legendary-trinket-effects-update/

Yet, here we are, only being told a few days before? when so many players have been shifting, making plans, trying to ensure they are ready for alliances because you gave a hard date when you thought you found the original problem? from a user perspective, you realize how being lied to is upsetting right? if you knew earlier, say something earlier, if your release pipeline is just a few days, maybe update that trinket post. (how hard is it to just make new unique leggos that follow the pattern of the wvw/pvp balls and just replace the ones on peoples account? months of work? oof)

WvW hasn't had an update in years, balancing is never centered around it, the meta has been the same for years, clearly you don't have the best project managers or developers on it (otherwise root cause investigations would of been properly scoped, and you wouldn't of given out a "we figured out what we did wrong" message last update). Yet, you still have the audacity to call it the core pillar of your game?

You're actively losing players to other mmo's that aren't even good. None of the new specs are wvw centric, all are outshined by previous specs for their roles, and all of their animations are borrowed from other classes, some are so obvious it's not funny. It's very clear anet just has devs that can make skins and maps while borrowing what the previous devs left them.

Doesn't put a great view for the xpac, or the timeline for any other wvw update

They have spoken about the "spaghetti code" of this game many times. The older the code, the harder it is to change. This is the most transparency we have ever had from the devs in the history of the game and people like you still kitten on them. This is a beta and not a go live date, let them do it right.

I think linkedin has an average retention rate of 3.8 years and a great deal of the core developers have moved on to other games. I'm not surprised. just sad and disappointed that a lot of what you said rings true.

Thanks for the update.

While that is a bit sad, it is a beta after all, so problems can and will happen, especially when we are talking about a legacy core function of the game. There are some MMOs that are still living with server ticks and snapshots because they are too afraid to change core functions of the serves (even though they have enough money to invest in that change).  So this situation is perfectly understandable.

The fact that they're working on it literally shows they're putting more effort despite the roadblock, but apparently that's not enough because "game dying, losing players, xpac terribad"

Many thanks for the update. I'm the WvW officer for my guild, so I've been waiting for the next restructuring beta to roll out, as our guild is spread out across the EU servers. The news is disappointing, but I appreciate the transparency you are all bringing to the situation, and I think it for the best that these critical issues are resolved so that we can have the WvW restructuring beta that we are waiting for, free of the issues that were very present in the first beta roll-out.

I think it's important for everyone to remember that this is a beta. Not everything is going to be perfect the first time around. The fact that we are receiving information about the issues that need to be resolved and transparency in the decisions not to roll it out again on 12 November in favor of delaying it to ensure that we have the best beta experience possible, is a clear indication that they have taken the time out to explain to us players exactly what is going on.

We are waiting with our Blueprints ready, when you are!

Having a lot of developers move to other jobs is a common "problem" in (software) development. Not knowing how the core code works after many years is also a common problem in (software) development.

QA testing for a production patch is different then testing for a beta. A 3-4 week wait before a change will be released in production is less (or even not) relevant for a beta. So you weren't lied to, just confused (I am being politely here!).

The same old BS I see repeatedly here (and on Reddit). Games loose players al the time. But GW 2 isn't losing players currently to other MMO's because WvW isn't developing. Most current WvW players will still be here when World Restructuring will be released.

The release for World Restructuring (or any other WvW update) isn't linked to the expansion. I think AreneNet would have preferred World Restructuring to be released before or at the same time as the release of End of Dragons. But the delay for World Restructuring shouldn't impact End of Dragons.

One could say this is an apologist spin on a rather valid take...

Sad news but the fact that this update and a lot of others have been giving fairly detailed technical reasons for decisions has been good. It reassures people that things aren't being put off indefinitely but are actually being worked on.

This. So much this. Keep doing this kind of feedback Devs, while I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about code wise it is 100% better to be reading this kind of post than to get no updates at all like the last few years.
