Screen goes black while playing Guild Wars 2.

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm having a problem with my game... The screen goes black but I can still hear the game sound, but it doesn't come back... I'm forced to turn the PC off using the button, I've already contacted support and did EVERYTHING they did. they said, they even apologized for not being able to help me... I really don't know what else to do, I've already reinstalled Windows 10, I changed processor and video card thermal grease... ALL the other games work just fine no problem, only in Guild Wars 2 I have this problem(I can usually play from 1 hour to 3 hours maximum without the screen going black)
My config:

i5 3330
8GB DDR3 RAM
GTX 770 2GB EVGA
HDD 500GB
600W

(Sorry for my bad English)

I recorded a video of when this happened.

I can't even read the message on the screen because you move the camera so much. Also, it is generally recommended to record in landscape mode unless you specifically target a video to be viewed on mobile phones.

Says "Energy Management" (Gestão de Energia)  I don't know how to spell this in english

What appears written is not that important, I think...

Hm, that means that the signal of the video card is lost. Even when Guild Wars 2 triggers, it, Guild Wars 2 is not the cause.

Something on the system is not stable. Most likely related to the video card. Check the graphics card, power supply, drivers, temperatures.

If that is not it, test general system stablity, Windows Memory test. Processor load test.

Test the graphics card under heavy loads using 3DMark and FurMark.

But why does this "error" only appear in Guild Wars 2? i play other games... Sea of Thieves, Dead By Daylight, Guilty Gear Strive, League of legends, Dark souls 3 .... None of them have this monitor "Error" by simply turning black.

I changed the thermal grease of the graphics card and processor 2 days ago thinking this was the problem... My GPU temperature is between 50 to 60 C, Processor 40 to 50 C
My power supply is 600W

10 a 20 minutos devem ser suficientes.

I did the test for 30 minutes and the maximum temperature reached 90ºC... But it doesn't turn off.

I am installing GW2 again... I had lost my temper and uninstalled...

I've tried running it in windowed mode, but it seems like it goes fullscreen, it doesn't go in windowed mode... even with Alt+Enter, I've always used fullscreen without borders...

And detail, the game doesn't lose signal instantly... I can play from 10 minutes to 3 hours (I don't know why it sometimes lasts longer...)

Yeah, this is a bit of an unusual one. I know three black screen issues.

  1. One is just a hard system crash. System goes off or into a reset. Game sound stops instantly or hangs on the last played sound.
Solution: Diagnose system instability. No GW2 issue.
  2. The second is a GW2 specific issue: Screen goes black, sound keeps playing for a while. Computer keeps running, screen stays on. GW2 has to be terminated.
Something may have interfered with the GW2 network communication.
  3. Third is a crash of the graphics driver. Screen goes black for 5 to 20 seconds in which Windows recovers from a crashed graphics driver. After that, the screen comes back with a message that the graphics driver crashed and has been recovered.

Second issue looks like this. Screen goes black, GW2 UI is still there but does not work. Screen does not turn off

Sim, este é um pouco incomum. Eu conheço três problemas de tela preta.

Solução: diagnostique a instabilidade do sistema. Nenhum problema GW2.
O computador continua funcionando, a tela permanece ligada.

Mine is quite different... I saw a post here that the problem is identical to mine, but it was in 2020 and I have no answers 😞

There someone comments that he/she had it because of a defective hard drive. Maybe your re-install will do the trick. If not, you could try a full disk surface scan. This will take long. Usually between 30 minutes on a small SSD to around one day on a big 4TB+ HDD. Best to start this before you go to bed and leave it running. (Disable any sleep mode to make sure the computer stays on for the task)

And there's another detail, if it was a problem on my hard drive, it would happen in all games... no?

You can have bad sectors and data corruption in the files if Guild Wars 2 while other data is still fine. Bad sectors can look like this:

https://alchetron.com/Bad-sector

If there is only one red dot inside the Guild Wars 2 file, then Guild Wars 2 can malfunction while other programs still work fine.

Oh yes! I used this program just last week... and it took all day, but I didn't find a single error.

About this here... all games work perfectly with TdrDelay at 10 and MSI Afterburner at -80 Core Clock (MHz)

And there's another thing I forgot to mention... I had to create a key in regedit with the name TdrDelay and put the number to 10... otherwise all games crash on my PC with D3D error

This may point in the direction of a graphics driver or graphics card issue. Normally you don't have to change this setting.

Then your drive is most likely fine.

I have the most up-to-date video card drivers... don't know which one to revert to so it can work... and I just recorded another video, now when I log in my character the screen instantly dims... I can't even move .
(Forgive me if the recording was bad.)

Tried to install a 2020 driver but it still didn't work. I think I'll give up... when I have the money to upgrade my PC I'll come back...

I see a lot of people with afterburners and none of them have this problem... but I tried without and it doesn't work either.

I can't even get into my character anymore, now every time I get into it the game turns off my monitor and doesn't come back...

That's a pity, but understandable. I think I've put in my knowledge I have. Maybe others have more tips for you. Or you can bring your PC to a good PC repair workshop where they can swap out parts to test where the instability comes from. Good luck.

I hate to say it, but your PC is 9 years old. It is probably breaking down from old age. Even though you took real good care of it.

1500$US - 2000$US would buy you a good pre-made machine to last another 5 years or more.  8-core CPU, 16GB of RAM, a 1TB NVMe SSD (also known as pcie or M.2) , (and hopefully a HDD, too) and a GPU (Graphics Card) with 8GB VRAM or more. You will maybe need a new monitor because the cables have changed to match the new technology.

I dealt with the issue of an 8 year old PC failing more and more often recently, also. I gave up trying to repair it and just recently built a new PC with all new recent technology parts. I also slowly bought most of those parts over a 12 month period, carefully researching compatibility.

good luck!
