Anyone else experiencing more frequent frozen animations lately?

Recommended Posts

Maybe just my perception, but I seem to be running across frozen animations a lot lately. They aren't client side, they can be seen by other players.

I had a good long run a little while back with my Daredevil's staff held straight up in the air in spite of mounting and dismounting, gliding, and going in and out of combat. I've seen a moa ice skating across the terrain of Ascalon while its flock members ran alongside it. Just recently my son and I rezzed a friendly archer npc frozen in mid-bow fire even though downed. She then proceeded to help us hold the camp against Centaurs while skating around and firing off arrows from a bow that remained drawn the entire time.

I know there have always been animation freezes. It's the reason we have the much beloved Aviator's Memory Box. But does anyone else feel like it's more common in the last months to a year? Or is that just the fuzziness of my memory?

It might be a memory thing. I've definitely experienced player animation locks and the Smooth Criminal Moa coasting along the hillside with two others running at its sides, but as long as I can remember that's been a thing. On the bright side, it doesn't seem to be impacting anything mechanically and has instead been quite entertaining over the years.

That broom is hilarious!

It definitely is entertaining. My son and I laughed for a good long time as a fought enemies and mined ore with my staff sticking straight up. I even played Parade Marshal riding at the front of an escort quest. My daughter and I followed Smooth Criminal Moa for a ways, laughing as well. The fact that it's flock mates were running just fine increased the absurdity.

I remember laughing for a long time at the original player video with the arms straight out as he made plane noises.

Maybe it is just my perception that it's increased lately then.

Could be! Hard to say for sure, but with so many broken things in a game this age, it's always nice to find something broken in a way that adds to the experience. Wholesome content - for the whole family!

That's just the tip of the iceberg (broomberg?), there's so much more heartwarming disorder - most of which can be resolved with a quick re-log, map change, or use of a transformation tonic.

You can dance (if you want to).
You can fail to sit on the your mount.
Your mount can fail to obey physics.
You can seriously mishandle your weapons.
You can immediately fail, even on easy mode.
Cosmetics can be combined in new and horrifying ways.
Sometimes your enemies are just as lazy about being farmed as you are about farming them.
And sometimes, just sometimes, you can worry a little about the NPCs and hope they're okay.

Happy little accidents aren't the reason I play GuildWars2, but they may well be the reason I keep playing it.

Those were awesome! Thanks for the laugh. The bow swallowing is probably my favorite.

I wonder why there isn't a thread that remains bumped with this kind of stuff. It's great.

Ah, nuts. It got moved to the bugs forum, which makes total sense, but unlikely to get much more conversation.
