Wedge.2579
So, I am not an avid gamer. If I were, perhaps I would not need to ask this question. I do, however, LOVE this game so much and I have played it almost daily since I discovered its existence about 3 years ago. So, let's just say hypothetically that I am playing a beta character and a key drops from a mob. Am I to understand that whatever I get from that key will not be saved? I understand the idea that story progress on a character that is temporary would not be saved, but what about loot? Sorry I don't get this. I guess I just don't fully understand what the scope of "rewards" is. A friend of mine said and I agree that it isn't worth playing a Beta character if let's say you get a precursor drop and don't get to keep it. Thanks for any positive feedback! This is a great community!
Cyninja.2954
Nothing on beta characters is saved. No loot, no unlocks, no achievements, no progress, nothing. Period. Edited December 1, 2021 by Cyninja.2954
Wedge.2579
OK thanks. I will not be playing those then. I agree with my friend that it is not worth playing. Edited December 1, 2021 by Wedge.2579 clarification 3

The beta is for people to try the classes and is good as it is simply because if they had to find a system for a beta character to interact with the live game database it would be too risky. Beta has lines of code that are not fully polished and tested. It is crucial for the live database to be split from the beta database as if something goes wrong it might corrupt the data and then we are kittened. Of course there are backups but why risk it for a beta that lasts days when many players worked 9 years to build up what they have? Loot is pretty low anyway from mobs or boxes, just don't pay attention to it and don't open boxes it's useless anyway. Just try the new classes and find out what u like the most!

I don't have enough play time for stuff that happens to not count 😁.
Danikat.8537
It's only worth playing them if you want to try out the new elite specs and the turtle mount, either to give feedback to Anet or for yourself, so you can plan ahead for when EoD is released. There's no other purpose or benefit to them. If you're not that worried about the new specs and the mount and just want to focus on playing the game then it won't be worth using a beta character. So far I've only made 2: a ranger because I like the idea of the new spec and wanted to see how it plays with the recent changes and a necromancer because I'm thinking the new spec might be good for a new character I'm thinking about making and I wanted to see the skills to decide if they're actually a good fit. I could do that after EoD is released of course, but it's easier to try them out during the beta. It is annoying that I don't get to keep any of the items but I've still gained something from playing them.
Inculpatus cedo.9234
Well, there is one reason to play a Beta character each day; the sweepstakes. You get an entry each day you play.
