Arborstone: A Complete Waste of Space

Recommended Posts

Yeah I don't know about this one.

Sun's Refuge clearly failed to catch on, nobody uses it.

Eye of the North has plenty of people there, so I think it works, but that may die down as people move on to other content that you don't need to be in Eye of the North for.

A third hub seems like it could go back towards being useless like Sun's Refuge again, unless there are some legitimate compelling content reasons to be there.

Personally I would have rather seen some sort of player housing district based in Kaineng. Given it's now apparently a "New Kaineng City", seems like the perfect opportunity to make one.

It's absolutely a really gorgeous place with so many details on it's architecture, but it's completely empty in terms of gameplay, there's nothing to do, even on the livestream they spent like 25 min

Have you played it?  A lot of things are hidden so you won't be spoiled.  Just wait with your opinion until you've actually played it.

Not to mention how ugly it looked to me with that green lighting. I cannot express how disappointed I am with Echovald and now Arborstone as they dropped the ball to deliver some darker zones for us w

But that's exactly what I said, too: leveling the Mastery will add decoration to the place. Nowhere did I write that you would be able to manually decorate the place. Proper reading ftw! :classic_wink: You even quoted what I wrote, yet claim I was saying otherwise. :classic_rolleyes:

You misunderstood, my point was that this is a missed opportunity , the fact that we can't decorate it ourselves, don't think that receiving an upgrade to a space is the same as decorating it specially if we think of what decorating means in the guild hall. Unlocking all upgrades in the guild hall is not decorating, placing objects inside is.

Sry if I was not clear enough previously.

I say this with best intentions for constructive criticism and not to bash Anet.

Presentation was bad. Too much time was spent to show nothing. It was novice twitch stream level content, not game dev presentation. Let's hope there is actually something and the devs don't think that they actually were showing us "content," because they definitely didn't show us gameplay, which is why most gamers play games, right? Quite underwhelming.

I'm also a bit concerned about how they may handle Strike Mission lobbies. So now instead of having one centralized Strike Mission lobby, we will have two? To do IBS strikes we have to go to EoTN, and to do EoD strikes we have to go Arborstone? I hope not. I hope both IBS and EoD strikes can be accessed at EoTN and Arborstone through their respective portals. Will scattering Strike Mission enthusiasts discourage people to play older IBS strikes? How will IBS strikes remain competitive and not replaced by EoD strikes? I really hope this has been thoroughly thought through by the devs. Maybe this is the reason for simplification of strike currencies, will all strike missions share the same shard currency and provide additional bonuses for daily rotations? Anet did a good job with unified currency and lobbies for fractals, so it seems odd to me if they will reverse course and take a more disjointed approach with strikes.

Besides being another strike mission lobby, what is the goal of this place that is different than Sun's Refuge and the current EoTN? Why does it exist? Why will it not be abandoned in the next update? They should have at least told us how this is different (besides a mastery track for unlocks). Why should players invest in Arborstone? What was the point of taking more than 3 minutes to tease some of the artwork and say something like, "a new hub with upgrades will be unlocked through a mastery system rather than purchased like how they are in EoTN"? If someone invested in unlocking EoTN, why should they pursue Arborstone masteries?

I am really hoping there is a fun and rewarding meta that takes place here, and it is more of a "map" than a "hub". Not sure how meta scaling will work though considering I will assume there will be a high percent of AFK players hanging around if it is also serving as a lobby. Maybe the meta will be similar to the casino coins in Amnoon which is kinda like a "hub/city".

There comes a point when the "fear of spoilers" spoils the presentation and it should be considered if the content should be presented at all like this. If you have to, edit together a short video teaser to play for us rather than live streaming "fooling around" in a map.

Raids also have two currencies depending on their respective expansion, so why should it be different with Strikes? It would make no sense to unify the currency as (I hope) the new Strikes will have new, unique rewards. There are players who have no use of the current Shards as they are full legendary and don't need to farm Shards for ascended equipment.

If the new Strikes are better/more challenging and provide new, unique rewards in Challenge Mode, most people will prefer to play them instead of the old ones which are meant for beginners.

Raids are also fine. PoF and HoT raids have different currencies but they are unified in the sense that they can be converted at a 1:1 ratio for each other's currency. If IBS strikes have prophet shards and EoD has jade shards (or whatever) and they can be freely exchanged, then I don't see a problem.

Raids are also niche content, with many end game players never even trying them (unfortunately), although that has nothing to do with the currency in my opinion. I hope EoD strikes will pave a road for newer players to become interested in raids, so that the LFG tool actually consistently advertises PUGs.

Exactly my point. As you seem ready to do, current strike enthusiasts will just move onto new strikes and abandon old strikes, taking with them the knowledge and skill that new players don't have. Likely resulting in new player frustration and abandoned content. What about newer players who want rewards from IBS strikes (some of which are RNG drop only)? Anet has a habit of creating new game modes without actually expanding them, and in turn just leaving old versions to rot. What is the incentive of seasoned strikers to help keep player population in older strike content up once all their achievements/collections are done? Right now, I'd say the answer is "none".

Guess what I'm saying is I just hope ArenaNet has a better plan this time around.

It's open world like EotN, so not sure why you think it's somehow going back toward being like sun's refuge? To me it looks more like building up from EotN.

You do know that the li to ld is  caped at 168 right?

And that was because wing 5 used to provide li untill they changed it to lds so to not have players lose progress they allow them to convert as many as was possible the weeks w5 gave li into lds

But ld to li is unlimited.

They did say in the stream that you can convert the EoD strike currency to eye of the north strike currency so it works exactly the same.

Okay, got you now. I suppose if the old Strikes will be accessible through the Arborstone Strike Mission hub, it will help the cause of keeping old/easier Strikes populated.

I absolutely agree with the OP. Why so much space? It's so uncomfortable to do anything. Even moving from jeweller station to leatherworker station takes a life!!!!

If they are not going to give us private housing, like many mmo do, at least build these "spaces" with the size and the utility of the lounges. Mistlock Sanctuary, for example.

I disagree. I love the big space. Besides, I am certain there will be several teleporters to shorten the travel distance between working stations.

I can answer you now about those "teleporters". Have a comfortable and durable chair (or directly, a coffin) while you wait for them. What you saw in the twitch show is what you'll get.

I don’t see the value Arborstone provides the average player. Maybe it has value, but you need to show it! They can’t keep trying to hype people on “probably” and “maybe”. It’s crazy. Why do I care about this space. Why should I bother leveling a mastery. For crafting, and cats?

Strikes operate through a portal, so I see no reason why EoD strikes couldn’t be accessed from EoTN, or old strikes through Arbor. Any utility the area has is already covered by EoTN or absolutely floored by paid spaces like Mistlock. Please prove me wrong Anet.

Near the very end they mentioned the map will have events (like Amnoon if i had to guess) but it's really disappointing to watch an hour of almost entirely vacant space they promise will be worth it when we get to play it.

That would actually be pretty sweet.

Amnoon is a cool place but I think it would have been better if it were a separate town map rather than this big resource hog of a location inside a normal explorable map.

I quite like the idea of a permanent Town map but with regular events and stuff going on there.
Closest we have to that really is during holiday events like Wintersday and Festival of the Four Winds.
No combat necessary but still getting events and stuff to do regularly.
Could be fun.

So, would the portals only show the Strikes that the particular player had unlocked (through purchase of expansion)?  Or a message, when selected, that states "This content requires 'X' expansion"?

If they wanted to do something like an actual town map, seems to me a place like Kaineng Center would have made more sense. I don't think that's what they are doing here. It's not really a town if the utility of it is locked behind masteries and maybe gold.

It would make the most sense to just show the strikes you have access to. The message could be useful I guess if the player is confused on how they can access a specific strike.

😂 Nonsense. We didn't even get to see the full thing, only the Level 2 Mastery.

And there were several platforms that were inactive, so yes, those could very well be teleporters. :classic_rolleyes:
