Zero notice of beta, what to do, scattered guild members

Recommended Posts

There was zero notice, in game, of the beta. My guild members and I are now scattered across servers and can't game together. I had to post in the regular WvW forum to find out what happened. Poorly executed beta, zero notice, zero guidance and now zero choices on all of us being scattered to the wind. I'd give a grade of F for fail. That's my feedback. Good thing this is only for a week!

Oh and I wanted to add, Beta is normally something players opt into. It's not something foisted onto all players. I would have opted out given the choice.

then give a realistic solution on to how to test a system, that has to account for thousands of players, under realistic conditions, without involving players, while getting a large enough testing ground for getting results you can work with.

Hint: you can´t. You can be pretty sure ANet already did many many simulations before in a testing environment, but anyone that has ever worked with concepts will know, that no matter how realistic you design your testing environment, the results will turn out different in reality.
You should even be more grateful, that ANet is running this test for ONLY one (1 !) week, and that they even run tests before making it final. They could also just have crafted everything on paper, test it in a testing environment under conditions, that cannot predict the real outcome, and then make it final and release it forever. Guess what: people would shitstorm even more, and probably drop the game entirely (which would be completely legitimate) unless ANet reverts all the changes immediately.

And if ANet would have given you a way to opt-out of the test, they would probably never have gotten enough players to create a realistic test either, risking of actually never finishing it, or releasing a non-functional system. So just deal with it for the remaining ~3 days,

You can, stop playing wvw until reset.

Apparently, you do not understand the meanings of opt in and opt out. To expand your knowledge base:

Opt in Definition & Meaning - Merriam-Webster

Definition of opt in

: to choose to do or be involved in somethingThe company offered a new health insurance plan so that more workers would opt in.

Opt out Definition & Meaning - Merriam-Webster

Definition of opt out

intransitive verb

: to choose not to participate in something —often used with of opted out of the project

Your welcome 😄

I have no idea if they could or could not do that and don't care. I don't work for them. This is a FEEDBACK area for what I think of the beta. I would have had zero opinions if this was done properly, or even simply notified that it was taking place.  I am dealing. I gave my feedback and shall continue playing. Have a great day.

P.S.

I won't be responding further unless it's an employee. This was feedback for ArenaNet, not fuel for trolls.

Then don't format your feedback in a way that ignites them. You can consider this feedback for your feedback. F for failure.

Test it until you have your data and don't run it for a full week for no reason at all. You're not getting more data if the first couple of days are already ridden with bugs. You're more than likely just skewering your data because many players that would be there in a normal week, are jumping ship, completely invalidating matchups.

Going by the topics which have been appearing on this forum I'd say many players who would be there in a normal week aren't there over the weekend, because there's been a big increase in topics like this yesterday and today. So if they'd ended the beta after just a few days all those people wouldn't have had a chance to participate and would never have been able to give their feedback about the system, which is just as important as things like identifying bugs.
