GW2 TacO

Hi all,

 

I have been playing GW1/GW2 since release and im very protective of my account.

 

I have just discovered GW2TacO which is the overlay that gives you map completion routes but I am a bit terrified to use it in case i get banned.

 

Does anyone know if devs are ok with the use of it or if they have anything official anywhere saying its fine?

Anet has never officially approved it (they usually never officially approve 3rd party tools) .   However it is just an overlay that uses the official API and does not interact with the client.    Anet has even promoted videos using it on their Guild Wars 2 Twitter account.    So while they have never officially approved it, they seem to be fine with it.  It is a very popular tool and I've never heard of anyone getting suspended or banned for using it.  I've been using it for years with no problem.

Thank you so much. I do find it a bit odd that they wouldn't just set players minds at ease and say its ok to use this one if they are showing it in videos.

I'm inclined to think its in case something goes wrong with these third party apps, whether its technical or some kind of malware hidden in, that way Anet has no liability.

Makes sense but I still think they need to be less vague on it 😕

GW1 we could use something that i cant rememebr the name of and it had addons that you could use to help with cartographer, was great.

Text Mod, I reluctantly used it as well when I reached my wits end on Tyrian and Elonan cartographer.

Can't really compare texmod to Taco in terms of importance.

Map completion in GW2 using just the in game tools is perfectly fine.

Map completion in GW1 using just the in game tools is not because of the stupid pixel scraping decision. The worst part of this is that the issue could have been solved bit of math.

I do remember one part where you could technically cheat for 2% and jump through a hole in the map and uncover a black spot. that was always handy lol

I suspect one reason they will not just say TacO is fine is that, while it is now fine, one day it might not be, and that would create confusion.

Probably liability now as well. They don’t want someone suing them if TacO does something bad and a case can be made they endorsed it.

This is about as 'official' as it gets.  If players were banned using these apps, it would likely be stated.

Independent apps can and have changed. There was a situation where a damage meter in the past was perfectly fine until it was modified to do something that broke the terms of service in a later version.  Anet doesn't have the time to personally check every version that comes out of every single 3rd party program. Imagine if they had approved that app and then the app changed. Do they ban people for using it after the fact?  It's a slippery slope and one they wanted no part of.

This kind of sums it up pretty succinctly.

 

OP:  Taco isn’t updated often.  I use it currently, and check the notes each time it is updated.  Haven’t had an issue yet.

 

Could there be one?  Yes.  Just be aware and vigilant
