The commander is on duty for military service, risk life to invest time and talent.

And the only way to get paid is still via robbing corpses.

Something doesn't add up

The commander doesn't even have a house to sleep in.

What's worse is that we have auto-loot too, so automation has come along and killed off the time-honored Dog Robber's job.  Prior to modern times and modern armies, soldiers and mercenaries were hired for a set rate per day (week, month, etc.) "and found".  The "and found" referred to whatever could be picked up on the battlefield - equipment, money, gold, jewelry, etc.

Well in all fairness it seems rather common in stories to have a main hero who is always broke or getting enough reward from each adventure to cover the costs and keep rolling on its quest. I have been watching Mandelorian (sp?) and this topic makes me think of him. He starts out taking bounties, ends up on the run using every bit of currency to get armor, refit his mount (ship) and each episode he seems to spend as much as he gets. Its just a life of an adventuring hero! 😉

The Commander gets 2 gold a day for doing a quick daily. How much more do you need?

The Commander gets absolutely nothing.

The 2 gold are for a 2nd job the commander has take on to get by.

It's like the top generals of the US Army working as a bagging boy at Walmart after a 9-5h shift, fighting a world war scenario
