It's a collector's edition vinyl LP, so the price tag isn't too surprising. Two new CD's usually also cost a similar amount.

I'm not sure if there were digital versions of the soundtrack available for any of the previous expansions, but I'd expect those to be cheaper. Still, the soundtrack seems to contain about 58 tracks, so I feel like it's not too bad.

Actually, this is about average for collectible vinyl records being released now.

Vinyl in general came back into popularity within the last decade or so, and sometimes even people don't own a record player may still buy them for display purposes and whatever feeling of prestige that grants them. If you really want to see wild, go to a record shop and look at old Beatles vinyls on sale for upwards of $125 (depending on condition, sleeve art, release date, etc.) $40 sounds about right for limited run of a 2-disc vinyl.

It's the same way with t-shirts. Growing up, band tees and video game shirts would run you, on average, $20. Now, it's not uncommon to see those going for $40 on websites and at concert merch tables. It's a change, but it's in line with the times.

Artists, be they musicians or otherwise, are constantly having their work devalued by consumers who don't understand or appreciate the work that goes into creating said art.  At times like these, we should be helping everyone get paid for the work they do, so they can continue to survive and hopefully thrive like the rest of us.

40$ for a collectable double vinyl LP is actually incredibly cheap.

I would love to buy that vinyl, but that would mean that I need to buy player as well 🙂 So I'm waiting for digital version and gonna buy that. Would love to have CD version, but haven't seen those after core game soundtrack, which didn't go very well for me. I bought the CD long time ago from official vendor, digital something, can't recall the name. Never got the CD's despite sending multiple queries. Not even sure if I got my money back. That being said, if I could buy core, HoT, PoF and EOD OST on CD, I would.

I want the sound track but have no use for vinyl. Will this be available through itunes at some point? Bought the first soundtrack and waited months cause they were having them signed. That was the only option at the time. I wish they would release a standard product next to these collectors items for those of us that simply want to buy the music. I mean, I didn't want to wait months for the first soundtrack. I just wanted to buy it and listen to it. It was a pleasant surprise when it got delivered as I had forgoten about it by then.
