The Maps are empty already

Recommended Posts

Came here looking for this.  I’m only on Shing Jea so far but the map feels empty too, despite being able to see friends on other instances of the map (suggesting that the map ought to be full?). Not sure if the size of the map makes it feel empty?  And that people are busy doing story so the metas are all ignored?  At first it felt peaceful, but it’s starting to feel just empty.

So posted an hour ago... thats in the middle of the day (ie lunchtime) in EU and either early morning or middle in the night for US I believe - not familiar with their 36 different timezones and inability to understand the 24h clock. On a regular work day.

I'm shocked maps are empty, shocked I say!

Well not that shocked.

It's been feeling empty since the moment it released and through the entire day, even during peak times for USA.  Core maps, and the previous expansion maps had a ton more people than EOD maps last night at peak times which were nearly empty at peak times.

I was wondering, yesterday I started casually to do story upon release.

When in Seitung I went on to complete the map and do some scouting / story.

After around 5-6 hours I finished map and had seen a handful of players yet nobody was really doing events.

I wondered where they all are.

As a solo mapper/leveller/altoholic I am used to play on deserted maps, but I have done PoF maps for completion with more activity.

Then I moved on to Kaiteng map, the city and saw maybe 5-6 players

I think something is borked with the megaservers on the Cantha maps or they set it to a lower player counts for launch. I played through it and I saw few people, even at points where you enter instances or talk to story related npcs, maybe one, two, three people, while before launch LA and DR were packed with people waiting for launch. There was definitely more people in Lornar's Pass for the start of the story then in the Cantha maps.

I noticed this and can confirm, maps feel empty. I can't complete single events before timer expires, not even talking about a whole map meta... Besides that, a lot of events are also bugging and become impossible to complete. I don't mean to be a hater, but we're off to a bad start, unfortunately...

Every Meta fails. Despite tagging up maybe 2 people join the Meta. Even core maps have a higher Population

It's the megaserver making too many instances. This happened when Hot was released as well. I suspect anet did this with the intent of staving off server issues on launch day which is a logical approach if you think about it.

So i'm not the only one notecing this. Shing Jea felt a bit empty already but in Kaineng it was really noticeable. In Arborstone it's a little better but thats a much smaller map. I guess ist must be some kind of problem with the Mega server. They PoF hat the same issue at launche if i remember correctly.

This should be on the very top of the priority list for things to fix. If new players finds maps this empty, right after a new expansion lanched, they might assume that the game is as dead as everyone on the outside thinks it is after all and just quits again outright.

Weekdays. Then there might be full maps and you on a other instance with not many players. And really only a smaller portion of the playerbase might play yet - cause it is not weekend. And some might still wait to even buy the expansion.

Then we are exploring - personally I did the story once. Explored most of Saitung. Now re-trying for achievements. (The first one where you have to avoid cannons ... must be why a lot of people are camped in Lornar's pass - to retry it. I will skip that for now lol.)

Checking minor achievements in Saitung on the map now. And for the last POI (maybe related to meta or accessible in the later story?)

The maps are definitely void of life, which is a shame as it robs the "massive" out of the MMO experience. I remember HoT was extremely busy on day one. The moment you finished that intro story and entered Verdant Brink, you were greeted to huge groups of people fighting that war. I remember lots of people wouldn't leave Verdant Brink because there was so much going on and it was fun. PoF launch wasn't as busy as HoT and it got a little more lonely the further you got, but there were some events like the casino run to bring players together. Cantha feels very isolated and somewhat depressing to be void of life. The large cities amplify the emptiness as the streets are mostly empty and void of any NPC crowds to help add filler. The other day, I was getting strange Star Wars Dark Forces vibes with the New Kaineng level design. Large, empty open areas. It felt really weird.

I hope this is temporary and it would be nice if Anet could give us a heads up what's going on.

I'm feeling this "emptiness" too. Champion events get maybe two people, and they're just not good to do alone.

Some of that may be the visibility range is way too low. I took a waypoint after getting KO'd in an event, and I couldn't see it to return to it. I had to track it by my little footprint dots on the map, and that's just not good. Players need to know where the events are.

I'm not sure why people think the metas should be full since EVERYONE IS STILL GOING THROUGH THE STORY.  This happened at PoF launch too.

I think that's an important factor too.

I've been focusing almost exclusively on the story so far. I've done a few events because they happened right where I was standing but that's it. I even dropped out of an escort event when I realised it was going in the wrong direction. From what I've heard in guild chat I'm certainly not the only one.

I agree with someone ealier in this thread (or another one) who said meta events are what you do when you've finished everything else. That may not be how it works for everyone but it's certainly how I do things.
