Wild Magic Glider Drops

I like the look of this, but alas... while I have keys (been buying them for years now, when they go on sale), chests don't drop very often.

But as it turns out, Black Lion chests are not account bound. You can buy them on the trading post, and what is more, they are pretty inexpensive (100 for less than 1g).

It took 32 chests on one account, and 58 on my other account, to obtain the Wild Magic Glider for both accounts.

Hope that helps provide at least a rough feel for the drop rate (1 in 45, on average, for me).

I have 250 chests in my bank and like 100 on a few characters.I never heard of anyone running out of chests. Keys on the other hand...

Thanks for the post. Unfortunately, that's nothing close to enough data.

Essentially "enough data" means opening enough chests that you get at least 20-50 of the items of interest. Simplistically, if you only got one glider, then being a little less lucky, you would have seen none; being a little more lucky, you would have seen 2, either of which changes perception enormously. The idea is you want enough to drop so that +1/-1 won't affect your predictions that much. (20 is ok; 50 is better)

It is enough to narrow the odds a bit. We can be reasonably sure, for example, the odds aren't 1000000:1. With only two drops, we can't be that sure that it isn't closer to 1000:1 though. (About a 0.4% chance that you'd get 2 from 90 drops with 1000:1 odds.) FYI the odds that the drop rate is really 50:1 based on your evidence is about 27%. If you had gotten 3, the chances would have been 16%; if only 1, 30%... so you can see why there's too little evidence to make a solid conclusion.

The contents change, usually, with each major release. This particular set of contents will likely change with either the release of Living World Season 4 or Wintersday, whichever comes first.

Absolutely LOVE this backpiece. One of my favorite backpieces in the game is the Toxic Spore, because I love having something that floats off the back and have always hoped they'd add more back items similar to it.

Refuse to buy RNG boxes for any reason though. This being in the chests will entice me to key farm for as long as it's available (and as much as you can nowadays) but I don't have much hope I'll actually get it with the limited number of keys I'll be getting this way. One a week on a new character, and I could probably run most of my other characters through Claw Island and the LS2 / HoT missions that give a key each, but that's still not many. Will be disappointing when I don't get it, but alas.

I would very much have liked it, but my limit on new chest rotations is 25 keys. I get it in 25 or I don't. And I didn't.

I am about to make a new Guardian once I decide on race/gender, since neither of my current ones are a good fit for Firebrand but I just got Radiant Leggings at last and want to make a look using them. Perhaps I'll run a key out of that and see if suddenly I get lucky.

What are you talking about? ANet wants your money and thus given you an incentive to buy Gems. So give ANet your money by buying Gems, then buy Black Lion Keys.

On the other hand content changes doesn't always result in everything changing. For example Halloween changed the content but the Hydra staff remained available.

Personally, I was asking because I DID look at the preview of the black lion chest yesterday and minus the permanent contracts which seems to be there forever, golden keys (not sure if permanent), and the nodes (which I can live without as Elder and Mithril isn't that hard to get), I really don't want to be stuck with the rest of the stuff in there.

They already got me stuck with the Fallen Balthazar and if their plan is "let's put these things within the Chests and now lock it into your account whether you want the items or not" like the mounts and such... then I will not try a chance at it.I really don't like how that wild magic look as I rather backpacks that look like... well backpacks.

Arenanet really needs to fix this. Allow people who want the items in there the ability to buy it off people that's luckier than them. This is really stupid.

Do what I do: save up. I am hopeful that ANet will release another Black Lion Exclusives Chest, a tradeable item that gives us a choice of formerly account-bound drops from BL chests.

Or to rephrase to follow your comment:

• I wanted the elemental sword. I had the money to pay for it. I was tempted to give cash to ANet for it
• ANet: nope, here's some RNG boxes.
• Me: no, thanks. I don't want the other stuff, so I'll do with out.
