I earned my turtle and played the forced strike mission. So don't assume it has to be 'not free enough' for me. That poorly thought out insulting comment has absoulutely NOTHING to do with my comment.

You could have reacted to first part of my post and told us what you meant by "ignoring" when ANet is making adjustments to fit the player reactions.

GW2 players are really something else. In every other MMO, devs can tell you to do X content to get Y rewards and people are fine.

Here, if they cant get Y reward, players demand changes to X content solely on the basis that they "deserve" it.

Biggest piece of advice I can give: Sub-groups. You WANT a commander that knows how to do sub-groups and organize people based on their role. If you see LFGs asking for roles and boons, get in that map ASAP. A lot of commanders are still trying to lead squads of 50 people in one giant kitten sub-group and in my experience that just does NOT work. Trust me when I say you'll have a MUCH easier time with a commander who knows how to organize.

I had a commander taxiing into DE, that had put into squad message to get your +10 stacks and we org before meta. 5 mins before meta started, the comm then said, "don't worry about sub groups and split accordingly and everything will be fine, we'll get a win just believe you can do it"... I'm not even kidding haha.

So 4 or 5 of the squad mutinied and requested for Lieutenant, and organised it amongst us, with a few of us, helping with tacts in squad chat. We succeeded.

In fact, every time I've gotten into an organised squad DE's meta succeeded for the last 2-3 weeks now. I've not had a fail since before the major bugs got fixed.

You must not play much GW2, GW2 is the mmo that has always been different, its an mmo like no others. Hopefully you can play longer and experience what the games truly about, and get a more positive world view 🙂

There is so many ways to play GW2 (If you pretend EoD doesn't exist) that the game excels at. You can never leave LA, spend the whole game flying, do whatever you like. It is a great hardcore casual game for the masses that exceeds at being there for people and players no matter their skill level.

Fun fact: all the attempts i have made so far, except one, had 5-man subgroups with boon coverance per subgroup and assigned roles for each subgroups. All the attempts i have made so far, except one, failed.

Fun fact number two: both exceptions were in the same attempt.

It's not a "completely optional event". It's an event Anet devs themselves called a culmination of 10 years of storyline. It is supposed to be the Event. And yet its something that's only for a small minority of players.

Basicaly, that "culmination of 10 years of GW2 storyline" ends up being a major disappointment for a large part of the community. Frankly, i'm not surprised people are not talking that well. I'm surprised however that devs don't seem to realize this is what is happening.

Anet can call it whatever it want, but the last story is really the culimination to me.  The meta event may be challenging but I don't think it really adds much to the story for me. I felt quite complete at the end of the last story instance.  It's not like Dragon Stand where you don't really feel like you're fighting Modremoth in the instance and to really get that feeling you have to do the meta. If anything I don't even really relate the meta too the story, because it's too hard.  I got my ending from the instance itself.

The main reason why EoD turned me off is how Americanized the dialogues are. Even the Asian girls speak American bravado and its so bad. I'd rather skip the whole story and just go fishing.

Yes, that's another issue. Most of the characters might have as well come from a modern times TV series. In the EoD storyline there's practically only one (Ivan) that truly shows his cultural heritage. Turning Canthat into a technologically developed country (again, western model) that seemingly lost its original spiritual roots didn't help either.

Exactly.

Any of the other issues present could be ignored, because nothing is perfect, or improved over time (such as balance and rewards), but this deprives the the characters, the story, and even the entire setting of anything resembling their own identity.

I am firmly of the belief that if there is no chance of failure, there is no point in playing.  That said, I am not a fan of the lengthier meta events.  Two hours or more is too long for me.  That's not to say I think ANet should stop doing them if that's what other people want.  I can accept -- as I have with so many other aspects of GW2 -- that I am simply not the target audience for that content..  Finally, though, just as difficulty is going to be a barrier to enjoyment for some players, so too is length of time to complete a meta event.  I doubt that the DE meta -- or Drizzlewood, for that matter - is at the sweet spot for most of the player-base, time-wise.

Well its more in the 75 min range now. You can join about 30 min before and still get the 5 stacks easy and also mine the 20 nodes meanwhile to make it worth the time a bit more. And the escorts + Soo Won never go to full hour. More like 45 mins.

The only thing is if you want to be sure to get a good group you want to join 1h in advance. If you go for late groups its not a given you will get one. I just check if there are any decent groups about 30 mins in advance and is there aint I dont do it. The last minute groups I would still avoid if you dont mind risking a fail.

It's not been the best expansion compared to the others.

The story isn't the best, and the maps aren't fully utilized. The last map specifically.

On the Dragaon's End map most people beam to the waypoint in the north (and everyone gets put their after the events), yet there is no armor repair there. It's at the south of the map. Little things like that are annoying.

I'll play devil's advocate just for fun here....agree with you btw.  But if there are so many different mechanics that people are still not comprehending after this many years, is it just the players or the game design is the issue?  People have trouble doing anything largely besides the classic tank and spank, hit the big monster.  They don't do well with dodging, self healing, dancing with the boss, and following instructions.  Add breakbars, x, y, and z axis planes for fighting, and other mechanics and they tend to fail.  And since that's part of the game for a long time, do the players not learn or does it need to be adjusted? When is too much, too much?

Lol back to your points...yep, it becomes loot pinatas...good description.  People do not improve or wonder why do I keep dying.  I died the first time I did DE, took me a try to understand what I was dodging and what it looked like.  Now I seldom am downed.  That comes back to as you said personal responsibility.  This isn't a fight where you just stand and hit 1 and let everyone do the work for you.  I actually really enjoy it, even though it is disappointing to run out of time when you are down to just a little left.  Definitely will limit their creative fights, but I do think they alternate with stand and dps vs run around and stay alive fights fairly well.

I have failed this event more than I have succeeded. There is no reward for simply attempting it compared to other metas that still reward your just for trying , like Verdant Brink still gives you things even if you don't max everything out.

My issue with my fails is more to do with things like, we made it to the last 10% and with 2 minutes left and all she did was bite and too many were whirlpooled. Those ones don't feel good to lose and would have been offset by a little bit of extra time on the clock.

I genuinely think the fight is pretty good, I don't think it is too hard. I think there are just some things that result in frustrating ends to what seemed like an EXTREMELY promising run. Besides fixing up chain biting because it reduces damage up time windows, just a little bit of extra time at the boss would be enough because it doesn't really effect the players who are having little to no trouble, it helps the slightly less organized groups. It should be enough to PUG a group and have most of your roles filled and communicate in chat to do this, just like Dragon Stand, Dragonfall and Triple Trouble.

This is open world and is the end of a major 10 year story arc, players of all skill levels should have a right to access it and I think most of them have the ability to get this done with just a bit more time. Most of the fail stories I have seen that cause huge frustration are always the ones that were so painfully close to a victory it just leaves people upset and blaming others.

The end of the ten year story arc occurs in the story instance.

I wont comment about people's "rights," but everyone who bought the expansion can access the event.

Welcome to GW2 forums! The battleground of the so-called "hardcore" casuals and the "I want more free stuff" crowd. Don't get me wrong, there are others here too...🤣
