I hope to you, $150 means a lot so it teaches you a wise lesson in gambling.
To me, any skin bound to the loot boxes are considered out of my reach. I doesn't mean I do not do the gamble from time to time. When I use BL-keys, I use them for the excitement not knowing what I'm going to get. I'll never use them with the hope or expectation to get item x or y.

Only for certain items, like the Living World season packs, not for everything. For example it doesn't apply to any of the cosmetic item bundles, if you buy an outfit then later decide you'd actually like the glider and weapon skin it's bundled with you don't get a discount for already owning the outfit.

Last I checked Zenimax didn't allow earning cash shop stuff in-game and every baby update was a microtransaction or subscription. One of the reasons I stopped playing. If I was gonna spend that much money I figured it'd be on FFXIV instead. I wouldn't consider BL chest worse, ESO was ultra sleazy. You can buy the wings with statues but they timegate it into distant future cuz thats the cool thing to do with MMOs nowadays. Timegates and FOMO.

That being said, I've played since release and spent 0 on keys. Anything I have from them were key drops or map/story completion keys. I'm not into gambling and prefer buying what I want directly. Unfortunatly what I want most is almost never added ^^; buttcapeless armor skins for males.

Meh, got the backpack/glider. I'm sure I'll use the glider for some toon somewhere, but really don't like wings. At least not the big ones. I have the smaller ones on some characters. I used 5 or 6 keys, hoping more for the weapon skin unlocks. Got one of those, too.

The OP does not state how many uncommon items he got from his 75 opens, just that he did not get the one he wanted.  There is a 0.084% drop chance that an Uncommon Item will drop from a chest opening.  That's an 8.4% chance.  That means that out of 100 chest openings, you'll get 8 or 9 uncommon items on average.  Out of 75 opens, you'll get 6 or 7, again, on average. Will any be the one you want?  Maybe, maybe not.

 

If you're going to gamble, it's best to understand those odds.  While ANet doesn't post them, the player-generated stats on the wiki have been very close to the current ones for a long time, so we can at least have some confidence in them.

 

Also, FYI, the intent behind the design of loot boxes is to entice players to spend more on an item on average than they'd be willing to spend if the company straight up put the price tag on the item.  That's why loot boxes exist. What that means is that the total price for all players who end up getting that item is going to be higher than those players as a group would pay if there was no loot box involved.  Since some will get lucky, some are going to end up paying lots more than the average amount spent by the entire group.  Saying, "I'll get lucky." as a hope is fine, as long as you realize that on average you won't.  Expecting to get lucky or venting about not getting lucky is flying into the face of reality.

TL;DR

In short, that unique uncommon item drop rate has been 'nerfed' years ago. This is why I have stopped buying keys ever since. It's not worth spending $50 ~ $100 for a chance to get something that will probably be replaced by something more shiny in a few months time. And the word is a 'chance' not guaranteed..

I have no problem with Anet doing this. Soak the gullible for all their worth. It keeps the lights on. I'm 100% behind Anet making money off of the relatively straightforward BLC system they have. Hell I've even bought a few keys here and there.

Hence why loot boxes are a kitten system to have in a game.  I wanted those wings too, however I was able to find the willpower to resist buying keys.

I suppose I can understand the disappointment, but by this point I feel pretty safe in assuming that everyone knows the "rewards" are randomized and likely not what one is hoping for. Unless statuettes are the goal.

 

So yeah, each key purchased is one more pull of the slot machine's lever, one more hand of blackjack, one more spin of the wheel ... That voice in your head telling you, over and over, just one more ... It's an addiction, and you have it. And in this case it's only for an intangible bundle of pixels. Despite the stigma, counseling can work wonders; I'd give it some real consideration.

This thread is terrifying to me.  Over half the people in here are just saying "dude don't gamble. gamble bad, make money go caput" but blatantly missing the point... you're admitting that it's ok that game features are being literally locked behind a wall of statistical uncertainty.  As in, you will likely never see the item, ever, unless you cough up the cash for an unpredictable amount of keys.  You're ok with being insulted like that?  Or are you just really jazzed up on Stockholm Syndrome?  Please stop being like this, people.  That's just enabling more inconvenience.

But Anet was right, if you buy more keys, specfically 60+ you can wait till its available in the black lion statuettes and purchase it anyway. Just keep an eye out for it

Didn't most people here say those skins will eventually ended on gemstore or black lion statuettes so OP might get lucky if that skin came up!
But i dont think anyone here is ok with that, the best people can do is advice other not to do it hench why people say  "dude don't gamble. gamble bad, make money go caput" so Anet can get the message, heck there already is a post saying that locking the new skiff skin behind rng is not A O K
