Recently (I think since the last patch?) I have noticed that I can't even swim right next to my Skiff without this (de)buff immediately being applied. When I did the brunt of my fishing for the achievements earlier in EoD I noticed I could swim to a nearby shore to put down my birthday cake for the food buff and return without incident. The only issue would be when a mob would attack and destroy my skiff and even though it would die in seconds would leave a nice nasty 15+ second dot on me, keeping me in combat and disallowing me to resummon my skiff to keep my precious stacks. Now the (de)buff just applies immediately when jumping out of the skiff. How are you supposed to vendor or buy new lure/bait at a shore merchant without losing your stacks? You'd have to somehow do all of that within 15 seconds or run up and down like a moron multiple times to be able to retain the stacks. I'm assuming this was an unintended bug?

It always did that - you get the debuff the moment you leave your skiff. Originally you could mount while on the skiff to prevent you from getting the debuff until you dismounted, but they nerfed that weeks ago.

Note the debuff doesn't matter. Fishing party is sourced from your skiff, so as long as your skiff is alive, you can simply get back on it to recover your stacks. When your skiff is destroyed, there's a hidden 15 second timer before it loses its stacks. What the debuff represents is how long you have to copy your current stacks to another skiff.

A bug I've noticed is if you summon a new skiff while your old one was nearby, you'll still have the debuff while on it. This is dangerous, as it means your current skiff is not linked to you and you will lose your stacks if it expires. In this case you have to re-board your skiff.

Ah then it was always due to the fact that I mounted to get somewhere nearby and thus didn't see the debuff until then. Thank you for clearing this up for me!
