But it's perfectly PG OK for a closeup of Smodur sticking a knife through Cinder's throat, and then Ryland headshooting Smodur?

Seriously, if you're gonna get your panties in a bunch about dirty jokes, how about getting upset about all the other PG stuff in the game too. Starting with all the gratuitous skin showing on female humans, just for example. 🙄

Guessing you didn't read my comment properly.

My problem isn't with the "dirty jokes" it's with the self censorship and PGness of them.

I'd love to see more adult themes used in Gw2, not necessarily nudity or lewdness but absolutely when it comes to violence, gore and profanity.
All online games should be 18+ by default anyway.

To quote GRR Martin I believe?

"I can go into explicitly, graphic detail about an axe going into a skull and everybody is fine. But describe a sex scene in the same level of detail, and everybody is offended." and IIRC, "It's a uniquely American reaction" 😛

Its gratuitous when human females show skin but not norn males?

I mean, a Norn PC can literally comment to the Asura Gatekeeper that they don't wear furs for warmth, but to honor the spirits. And the Asura replies with "I've seen what passes for modesty among the Norn!" and IIRc there is a Norn in Snowden drifts who comments on it as well.

The Norn are described as having few issues with nudity.

So, the title even starts with "new ideas for new characters". Where are they? ^^

It would be quite interesting to actually see some viable ideas from people complaining about the current cast. What would a good cast look like to you, if possible without just referring to other IPs ("just like in XYZ")?

Personally, I'm okay with the characters. The writing could be more in depth and more consistent in some cases, but it's alright for what it is. Not a huge fan of some of them, but I suppose that's intended and normal.

And perhaps Tyrian humans similarly have fewer issues with a "lack of modesty".

Only thing I somewhat agree with on that is Snargle but as has been pointed out he's an extremely minor side character and therefore unimportant.

I can still appreciate a good lewd joke despite my general real world distaste for the kind of thing Snargle does for a living but if you're going to go for that then just go all in on it lol

Understandable why you obviously would never see that in a game like Gw2 and that brings me to what I dislike mostly about him... it's the PGness that I can't stand about this character.

Sleazy characters like Snargle just feel so out of place in a game like this..

Lewd/rude humour is funny specifically because of it's inappropriateness, shock value and generally because it's obscene and vulgar.

So putting any kind of PGness on it just defies the point.

I actually have the opposite opinion, Snargle is more funny because they have to rely on euphemism and not boring shock value.
