I'd actually love a spear for ele if they made spear available for normal combat aswell. Ele is master of elements, some kind of mage and shaman mix. Bows better fits for mesmers, they are master of ilisions and weapons. Personally I would like to see ele with mace as range weapon. Longbow elementalist isn't my favourite possibility, but consider, for example, the Amazon of Diablo 2 and the Demon Hunter of Diablo 3, and those are just well known examples. A ranged weapon doesn't necessarily have to be bad. Look at deadeye's rifle, it is currently the strongest dps build thief has access to with a benchmark of 39k. And yeah, De rifle gets 39K ... because anyone that knows how to play it knows they have to play it in melee to get the buffs from their team to get that much DPS. Being ranged I don't lose anything for being up close to group up for boons but being melee I do lose out when there is movement or mechanics forcing you away, which is very important on a class without weapon swaps. There should be nothing wrong with people wanting a good option for ranged combat with eles. Well, it won't likely do good damage because good damage in this game doesn't come from the weapon, it comes from all the buffs you get from your team mates and the zerg standing around them while doing a rotation. Unfortunately, those are melee range buffs coming from people playing melee weapons (because range camping is not what good players do). The other option ... that's ALL it will be able to do ... and those specs are fragile and unstable, just like Virtuoso. So again begs the question why Eles THINK they want a ranged weapon? I mean, YES ranges weapons CAN work at melee range. I even said that myself. That wasn't even something I disagreed with so why are you even talking about that? My point is that the OP is NOT asking for a ranged weapon because he wants to do DPS. He just wants fancy arrows to RP with. At least the OP isn't delusional about why he wants a LBow ... while all kinds of other people are high on hopium that a ranged weapon will SOMEHOW going to be decent DPS, even at range. It wouldn't compete with staff in that way then. Though we eles often like having at least some aoe.
