[Holosmith] Prime Light Beam (WvW & PvP)

Hello,

 

I like to play my engineer as a power Holomancer in PvP and Roaming in WvW. I have noticed that recently the Holomancer ult Prime Light Beam now does negligible damage in both these types of content. I am not sure whether this is a bug or not but I couldn't find any mention of that in the patch notes. If this is intentional (perhaps to stop that damage being so front loaded?) then this is awful design for WvW and PvP as no one will be stood in the pulsing burn field for long. That makes this ability redundant in both WvW & PvP which is lame as I did enjoy using it as a line nuke/knockdown but now it is reduced to a 60 sec cd knockdown which doesn't feel great. Not sure it even saw that much use previously.

 

Can anybody tell me whether this was an intentional change (and if so when/where in the update notes) or if it is perhaps a bug? Here are some screenshots showing the tooltip damage value in open world and then in WvW (also same 6 dmg shown in PvP lobby). I have tested vs players and a dummies in PvP so can confirm it now does only 6 damage!

That change is pretty old already.

Date of the patch has been the 25.02.2020 (dd.mm.yyyy). In that patch, every ability that causes hard CC got basically all the damage removed on the hit that is delivering the CC (this change has been PvP/WvW only). The only exception are abilities which are causing daze for their hard CC.

Prime Light Beam with it's launch was affected by this patch and got the damage removed. So yes, the missing damage on the initial impact is indeed intended and has been for over 2 years already.

Ok fair enough thanks for confirming I hadn't been playing Holo until more recently so hadn't noticed the change but it makes sense with that reasoning in mind. I play mesmer main Chrono so know it was the case for Gravity Well.

 

I still can't say I love it as I wanted to use more like a nuke but there we are!
