XenMaster.7165
IS there specific harvest node for this or just random drop from a box?
AgentMoore.9453
They're a random drop from some plant nodes out in the world, but you can also plant them in your home instance garden or buy them in bulk from vendors. They're also in the drop table for a number of loot bags. This wiki page has a nice list of all the places where you can get them. Additionally, if you type /wiki in game, you can pull up a page with more information on any material/event/item/NPC/map/achievement/etc. on the fly. So in this case: /wiki vanilla bean. Edited July 13, 2022 by AgentMoore.9453 I'm old and forgot they removed the bulk option from the game ages ago.

So, each character has a 'home' instance where they can collect gathering nodes and other toys and one of the features they added for this place was garden plots. When cooking got an update, they added a quest line that grants you one of these garden plots for free, but you can also buy them in the gem shop. Vanilla beans are one of the many things you can plant there, which means that each day you can visit your home instance and harvest them. It's been a while since I saw garden plots in the gem shop (and you may need at least one of the pay-for ones to grow vanilla beans; can't remember), but they seem to rotate back into the store every 2-3 months. I do have the plot from mastering chef and I have no way of planting stuff other than the seed pouches for ascended food materials. 1
Garrison Storm.3046
I understand trying to be self-sufficient, but if the point is to simply acquire the beans, given the ~50c cost to buy on TP, you could always just grind for gold in whatever manner suits you and buy them... would seem to be an efficient means of acquiring... 1g = 200 beans, if my math is good.

Luthan.5236
Yes. The plot from the achievements is for the Ascended food associated with those achievements and stuff. Buying a paid one from the gemstore unlocks the other mentioned seeds - among them also the 4 special plants for the 2-hour version of the food/utility primer. (I really like that. Can make the best of the ascended food others sometimes "donate" when there is a meta event - getting 2 hours out of it with those cheap crafted primers.)
