In game compass?

Recommended Posts

Just something I'd think would be a nice to have like some kind of indicator you can toggle on in settings to some where on screen show what direction you face. I know you can just look at mini map but my loosey goosey brain still gets confused sometimes.

What's your guys opinion on such an idea?

You basically can with the hud map. That is, if you set the map to turn when you turn your character it will always orient in relation to your direction and it always points which direction in relation to that position north is. That is what I do, granted you do still need to look at the mini-map. Taco and blish also can add an actual compass in the middle of your screen.

That would be nice actually.  I don't have direction issues but there are times it would be handy for a quick reference and not have to open the map up.  Good suggestion.

Why would you have to open the map when it is already on the mini map?

Wouldn't mind a compass "bar" inspired by Skyrim and others, jut underneath where your current target would be.  Show my markers, quest objectives, and optionally my party members there (but NOT map legends).  That would be vastly easier than staring at some beacon half-way off the minimap.

How well does blish hud does it work with multi boxing if ya know? because If I dont need to fiddle with it and lock it to one instance to have a compass that be great!

No idea I havnt tried Blish, but many people suggest its the taco replacement. I have tried taco before and it can draw a compass on the map which is why I mention it.

Minimap with rotation turned off is literally the same thing.

Funny with map ratation off its a static arrow. Its nothing like a compass at that point and you have to recalculate with respect to your character. I really have never understood why anyone would prefer having the compass static vs able to spin with your character. People are silly.

It's rather silly to have the map rotation on, then trying to figure out which direction is N, S, W and W. On a static map it's a piece of cake, and you can clearly see by the light cone in which direction your character is looking.

Absolutely, I can't understand anyone preferring to have it spin.

I just find it fascinating if that works for you. For me I typically have a directional reference if I care what the actual north, south, east, west is in relation to my character and its direction. Rather what does help me find my way in game is knowing what other objects of note are nearby and what direction I am facing with respect to those objects. If for some reason I need to know North south, etc its on the HUD map and I can always make note of one of said objects are in the important direction to make reorientation easier.

To me a static reference to north that does not move with me is not at all helpful. It sounds like you have a hard time understanding the way I use the HUD map.

I guess that's why the HUD map works both ways 😉

In any case if players want an actual in game compass a HUD is the only way I know of to get that.
