Healing role

Can someone tell me how it is possible that with 27 types of elite specializations there are only 4 or 5 viable as players for all game modes? Or at least those that are really effective in various situations, I'm not talking about specific situations in which a class can play more of a curator role.

To my knowledge all or most classes have some kind of healing support potential.. although I agree it varies a lot in actual usefulness between classes and ability.

I'd put some blame on poor balance for that but also some blame on elitist mindsets as well.
It's ultimately players who declare what is "viable" in various content and usually those "viable" builds are highly restricted to what is "Dah best" and not what is actually capable of participating and being able to do the job but less efficiently.

That's at least where balancing can come into play and buff/nerf as required to level the playing field.
But sometimes the attitudes of players is the bigger reason X class or build gets ostracised from a role when it can technically still do the job.. just not as well.

If you go back to the GW2 manifest, before launch, you'll see this is on design. The game is designed in such a way that you can play solo and in a group (both organised and just some people that happen to cross your path). Part of this is that the trinity (healer/dps and tank) has been abbanded. You need to bring your own support/heal, tank and dps and GW2 accomodates for this.

This went well, but GW2 got succesfull and draw players frm different games that demanded raids. This demand was so high they delivered and with that they also delivered some elite specialisations that brings specific roles. Although not limited to that game mode, they are not designed for regular open world en these roles only exist for that purpose.
