Wasn't axe always good for ranger pve dps? what changed?

Axe was the worst option for power DPS and the 2nd best option for condi. The coefficients for axe for power just weren't there and for condi there is just mainhand dagger (soulbeast only) and shortbow for any condi weapons outside of mh axe. These coefficients make power damage insane (if all 5 axes hit on axe 2, it's effectively a 2.5x power attack, only things that rival it are things like ele staff fire 5, firestorm).

 

Power used to use dagger (fast hits, good for leftover burst) or sword (better sustain than anything mh axe could offer), and condi soulbeast died (RIP stance duration, vulture stance never stood a chance) but condi untamed uses MH axe partly because it's a good condi weapon but it also has an insane coefficient for power, meaning even though you're using one of the worst condis (bleed, the only worse coefficient is confusion when theyre not attacking) the damage is still rather high due to the power side.

That's not exactly why axe is so good now- hidden barbs yes, but also hidden barbs no. The bleed isn't anything to write home about, it's about as good as it was. The power coefficients are insanely good for the skills now, especially axe 2.

I believe that he mean: "It was already good, why did it get a buff all of a sudden?"

And the answer is probably: "Because there was a bit of damage output to catch up after the june patch."

Exactly what I said. The bleed is just a small bonus, while new 2 scaling does huge damage.

Which is just more confusion as to what the axe is supposed to be.  We're also going down a big split between PvE and competitive when it comes to builds, as axe isn't even in the same ballpark for competitive.

You are comparing OH axe to MH axe lol--which in competitive OH axe is the one with decent damage (from whirling defense) and CC (which never hits anything that isn't a stationary golem).   MH axe is 'fine' but is essentially used either on condi builds or for might stacking, where now in PvE it can be obviously used on power.  

Also not sure what's with the random GS inclusion...?

Axe to me was kinda a mix between CC and condition and power. 

 

I personally liked because of the CCs and ability to get away from enemies but thats not really necessary in pve.
