Moving left and/or right is not working

Just signed on to find out that I can not totally move my character to the left or to the right.  Only movement availability is forward and backwards.  Anyone else have this problem?

Check your keybinds in the options, last update most likely screwed it up.

Partly. I would move right with <D> but not left with <A>.

I was able to fix it by resetting my keybinds and remaking my custom ones. Make a screenshot of your current keybinds before you change them.

There’s a few threads. Anet changed the default controls. A/D swapped with Q/E

I read it .. and the changes are a sub-point of :

Updated default selections in the Options menu for new accounts.

  • Strafe Left: A
  • Strafe Right: D
  • Turn Left: Q
  • Turn Right: E
  • Special Action: N
  • Information Dialog: - (dash)

Patch notes are mentioning new accounts. We're using existing accounts.

Arenanet failed to apply the change to only new accounts.

It's a bit sad that they managed to affect existing accounts, but it's not much effort to fix the key binds.
