The rationale is this; Most other conceivable incentives would encourage people to transfer to a winning server instead of remaining to defend on a losing one. I recognise that there's a ... scenario (not a bug) ... where the defending team is awarded credit for participating in a successful defense before the enemy is repelled from their objectives. I think that's an acceptable situation because at least the player was there at the time. Pip farmers are likely to be killed if they don't actively defend and apart from the scenario I just outlined, they'll not get any credit.
