The rationale is this; Most other conceivable incentives would encourage people to transfer to a winning server instead of remaining to defend on a losing one. I recognise that there's a ... scenario (not a bug) ... where the defending team is awarded credit for participating in a successful defense before the enemy is repelled from their objectives. I think that's an acceptable situation because at least the player was there at the time. Pip farmers are likely to be killed if they don't actively defend and apart from the scenario I just outlined, they'll not get any credit. The only issue here is that Anet does NOT want people defending. They nerf or remove anything that puts a dent in boonball blobs. They want 30-70 people taking everything in under 2 minutes with minimal interference to the "fun" the stacked server is having. Plus you can pop the defense event by just aggroing the guards on a run by, people should be rewarded with pips for defending during those periods too? There's no need to offer rewards like pips, people already do defend, I still see lemming groups feeding ball groups in towers every night. The problem is when the enemy brings huge numbers with/or boon ball that overwhelmingly tell the defenders they have no chance, then there's no point. Also make proper scout calls if you want people to respond quicker or at all. Plenty of times I don't respond to something because all the lazy scout did was put up a link to the objective. Place/numbers/side at minimum, numbers tend to increase the urgency. Spamming just a link that I click on to focus on the map only to see white swords, does absolutely nothing. Funny thing when I get to an objective that's under attack, first thing I check are the tactics available and then the siege to use. Mortars up for catas or trebs? cannons to hit inner gates or siege? Don't understand how some things don't become second nature to people. Nope, let me stand on the wall and try to aoe down on the 40 people below while my team gets here, they won't pull me or bomb the kitten out of me, nope, oh and use stun breaks or stability or stealth while doing my shenanigans on the wall? pffffft nope! cause lemmings just wanna have fun! Well some people may be trying to kill the siege but in most cases they end up doing a whole lot of nothing.
