Things you enjoy about the game

Recommended Posts

I feel like I post a lot of criticism and it's not a totally accurate portrayal of my experience with the game... there are things I def enjoy too.

So I thought I would share some of those things and you can share some of yours too.

- Roller beetle races: these are a great source of frustration. Kidding, they are a fun challenge, but I do need to be less frustrated gamer about my mistakes with them sometimes. 😅

- Griffon mastery adventures: I like these even more than roller beetle races. It's a great opportunity to use the griffon, which is fun as hell going fast, and they are relatively short, so it's quick to screwup and restart, makes it feel more engaging to learn.

- Easily puggable metas: what I mean by this is not that they are inherently "easy, guaranteed win", but that they are relatively easy to organize people for and get them to do mechanics, so they can be pugged on the fly easily. Metas like AB, for example. Even TD I'm enjoying more than I used to.

- Drizzlewood: I hope to see more maps with a format and reward structure as robust as this one in the future. Only thing to maybe learn from here is making one end of the map far more appealing rewards than the other (south vs. north).

- Dyes: The best part of GW2's fashion customization. So many different dye variations to choose from once you've got a lot unlocked and you can change the set colors freely.

- Tempest: There's a celestial open world build I really enjoy playing and it's been my main since I came back to the game.

I'm sure there's more, but that's what I think of right now. 🙂

Things I personally enjoy....

Open world.  I really just love dropping in and out of maps, finding adventures, and meta events.  They're lovely and fun.

Mounts.  They have personality and I love watching them as I ride along.  Also I love the skins for them.

Community.  Overall the GW2 community is very helpful, fun, and creative.  The game encourages a spirit of friendlessness even when playing mostly solo.

Collections.  I always look at these and think yuck, but fine I'll do it for some achieve or reward.  Then find something fun about it, and really enjoy it.

Chuka and Champawat.  I absolutely loved this story and collection.

And just because you mentioned tempest OP, my renegade.  Revenant was an unexpected surprise, it was not what I thought I would play.  Turns out I love it.

This was a nice question in amongst the sometimes negative posts ❤️

Asura in general. Something about being a little character that's just plain smart somehow managing to beat 6 elder dragons and a God makes it sound WAY more impressive than if I did it with other races. The idea that something so small can accomplish something that big is a trope I always loved to perform in games with fictional midget races, such as goblins, yordles, etc.

Also the fact that there's so many cosmetics and customization options that I've been able to legit roleplay my yordles best I could.

What I love about the game:

- Horizontal Progression

- Well designed Open World

- Awesome World Bosses and Metas (except for the Dragon's End meta)

- The mounts' various abilities

- Charr race, loved it since GW1 and always wished for charr to be a playable race, it happened with GW2

- The fact that everyone gets loot, compared to other MMOs where players roll and only the lucky ones get the loot

- The mastery system

- The fact that the game is almost fully voiced

- The story (it went downhill from the middle of Icebrood Saga but taking Vanilla up to End of Dragons into consideration, I still like it overall)

- Steve (we can't have a complete GW2 experience without our cute Steve chasing us with the chainsaw during Halloween, can we?)

Thanks for sharing your own things you enjoy, was good to read.

Also, wanted to add a happy post to say after many many fails in Brisban Wildlands, I just completed Rolling Ace for roller beetle. 😄

Ohhh congratulations on that...I still have not earned my gold there.  Yay!

I found myself nodding along with you on your list, I love the charr and the maps and the story has grown on me.

I lost it at Steve 🤣. Halloween would be sad indeed without him.  Can't wait!

The fluid, mobile, engaging, complex combat system that rewards mastery of your build.

The environments are often truly stunning. The artists have succeeding in creating locales where, immediately upon seeing them for the first time, I tell myself, "I cant wait to go on an adventure there."

World vs World. Not what it once was but still exciting much of the time.

Strike missions. A place where someone who doesnt have time to join a static raid group can face a challenge where their participation matters to the group's performance.

I can make my characters look good.

- all of tyria and the places to explore. So many hidden details if you take your time and look around.

- meta events and world bosses.

- mounts and how unique they feel when using them.

-the community

- gear not losing their value

- asura and their voice actors. (All voice actors in general. It’s the best mmo voice actors I’ve experienced so far of all the mmos I played)

- Lord Faren and his resentment to pants

First off - thanks for starting this thread.  It's good to see something positive, there are problems, but most criticism isn't constructive and few people point out what it already working well.  I think we like many of the same things - including celestial elementalist! (although I can't play it all the time, it's still a lot of work, if enjoyable!).

Things I enjoy about GW2 after playing MMO's since they began (Ultima Online beta tester!)

- almost all play is truly co-operative.  With very few exceptions you aren't competing in PVE - everyone gets credit for the kill, everyone gets loot.  It encourages players to help.  Even totally selfish players will accidentally help other people.  It fosters good will and a positive vibe in the game.

- PUG' able open metas are great. I think this is where the game is at it's best.  Informal groups of players that spontaneously come together - heck even in WvW - working together and all benefitting from each other's help.

- mounts are great.  Collecting them can be tough and long and frustrating - but once all is said and done, its worth it.

- no constant end game grind for gear. I've flat out refused to play any game that demands this of me.

- the 'big tent' concept that GW2 embraces.  WvW, PvE, roleplayers, racers, people who like jumping puzzles (or as I call them 'sickos'), raiders, or people who like dabbling in all of the above, GW2 has a place and a play style for all of them.

- Asura.  Asura are awesome.  Short, giant headed, egomaniacal, utterly psychopathic, but tremendously fun.

● Asura (😁) "Booka"

● Gadgets (World Boss, Position Rewinder)

● Infusions and Enrichments (😮) "Shinies"

● Gliding

● Swimming

● Outfits

Will post more soon after other replies.

I was looking for an MMO that I could just bumble about, having fun solo in and was ftp or very cheap. Due to poor health I wasn't looking to push the limits, get really serious, join a guild in an MMO again. That may seem counter-intuitive but I still like seeing other people going about their business and making it feel like a lived in world. Coming from nearly 14yrs playing Age of Conan, great game but so dead now. I watched a vid about GW2 and decided to give it a try and I'm glad I did.

I like just flying lazily about on my Skyscale. Not going for speed, just floating about and enjoying the scenery. Divebombing skiffs and skimming the waters.

Making little circuits in Lion's Arch to speed around on my beetle. Going drifting in the deserts.

Everyone getting credit/loot from kills.

The downed state and everyone being able to resurrect and getting rewarded for doing so.

The music in The Grove.

The Quaggan swimming song.

The feeling when I got my Griffon and Skyscale.

The Seasonal events.

Character customisation.

Skritt (stuff, stuff, stuff)

Skritt

Beautiful areas, PoF zones specifically, but all over the game

Shimmering Aurora weapons - they have enough effect to scratch that glowing magical weapon itch but aren’t garish

Bioluminescence

Mobile combat

Community that is helpful and has a sense of camaraderie - currently loving how people help each other out and joke around in Draconis Mons, just one example

Season 4

Mounts in general and how each has its niche

Open World metas

Original GW ambience music in desert maps

Horizontal progression

Rytlock and Marjorie's voice actors

Gold-to-gems and back system

Kodans

How focused the story has been from core game to EoD

Thought of some more:

I like the little blurb and music sting they added to when you get a legendary. Makes it feel memorable and impactful.

As someone who doesn't like having to juggle a lot of stuff in my head, I like that with the legendary armory, it's an item I don't have to keep track of, maybe more so than the convenience of re-using it itself. It's something I can't accidentally delete or misplace, it's just there forever. Love that.
