Why not double-click or auto-stack functionality in guild banks?

Recommended Posts

Why can't I double click an item in my inventory or in the gbank to deposit or withdraw something? I still need to withdraw items manually and stack them together (or just press the Compact button, which auto stacks in my own inventory).

I consider GW2 to be one of the most QoL-having games on the market right now, if not the most player friendly game, so this is more of a minor complaint than anything else with all the other things GW2 takes care of for the player....but why? I'd have assumed this to be basic functionality, especially in a game called Guild Wars 2. It is very time consuming - and I shudder to think of what folks in larger guilds have to deal with to keep things properly managed and organized.

Is there any word on if this is being considered and, if so, when we'll get it?

I don't know why items in guild banks can't be stacked but it's annoying.

Even in my private guild it's annoying having to withdraw a stack to add to it instead of just dropping the additional items in, but it's worse in real guilds. I've been in several which allow most people to deposit and withdraw items from at least some sections of the bank and keeping it tidy means at least once a week someone has to go through and combine all the stacks and stray items which have built up.

I suspect that it's technical reasons. With the delay in data transfer between local clients and the game servers it would require several extra messages to be exchanged and a delay (and possibly a "can't do that right now" message if somebody else's action on the same bank item interferes) on the user side of things which could easily be more jarring than the "need to withdraw to stack" handling we have now.

Concurrent access coupled with data transfer delays requires a whole bunch of extra saveguards to guarantee data integrity and ensure that no exploits like item duplication are possible.

Fair. Thinking back, I think I remember some sort of exploit involving guild banks. Either way, it'd be nice if anet let someone build an external addon for it, it just gave us a guild-bank-lockdown-sorting-button type deal. There are definitely acceptable ways around this. ESO used an addon called Roomba for a really long time. It was still a pain, but like...less pain. Less pain would be nice. I can understand bandwidth limitations or engine limitations, but every MMO I can think of off the top of my head has this and it's very odd that GW2 doesn't.

Did they change anything around that recently? Last time I played ESO (a couple of weeks back) moving stuff to a guild bank still wouldn't auto-stack.

I think they gave you a button to click built-in to ESO that stacks for you, but not sure lol. I checked back in a few weeks ago as well, saw the new patch and noped back out for a bit. I wouldn't be surprised if folks are still relying on Roomba.

Server architecture makes a huge difference. Having a more traditional 'each character is stuck to a specific server' approach would make this much simpler but I wouldn't trade megaserver for autostacking.

At this point I'd take a hacked together workaround solution if needed.

Also, your @handle - reference to the Dragonlance character?
