Xenesis.6389 Posted August 31, 2022 Share Posted August 31, 2022 (edited) I'm going to start a thread for the purpose of having one place for Anet to read about Quality of Life or big dreamy game mode changing suggestions to improve wvw. If you've had an idea that was maybe lost in the shuffle or never got enough attention because of the sarcastic madness of the wvw forums, please feel free to add it, and make sure to title the post on what it is about for a quick tldr, easier for devs to skim through. Let's try to keep this focused, we don't need posts about stuff like scrapping wvw for a battle royale or battleground mode, those are entirely separate modes from wvw, this is strictly about improving wvw. ALSO Please do not post about Rewards in this thread, I will be making a separate one for that issue, as I know that is a very popular subject with many different ideas to improve it, it deserves it's own thread. And no class balance suggestions please, as that also gets discussed to death in other threads around the forums. 1. Add Walls To Desert Borderland Desert Borderland New Walls Image shows adding walls to Stoic Rampart, and the two north towers. The purpose of these changes is so the coverage resembles those of the alpine borderlands. Make the two watergate walls indestructible so only the gate is passable. Add two walls to the sides of Stoic in order to force players to go through the north side in order to hit the north sides like they do for garrison on alpine, there is the option to make these walls destructible, but it's better to make them impassable as with garrison. Adding indestructible walls to north towers in ensure their area is used for proper detection/protection of the north, and also no easy wall breaks out of watchtower range. Alpines has this on nwt but you need to go all the way around to the north, but this isn't possible with desert layout, so for out of range breaks trebs would be required. 2. Updated WvW Scoring Menu Updated WvW Menu Image shows a more unified layout of information. Server names | Current War score | Victory points | Listed in order from Green, Blue, then Red. Tooltips over Warscore and Victory points names should describe what those points mean. 3. Update EOTM When world restructuring happens, there's a good chance this may get used more often again, if things go according to plan to keep wvw maps as full as possible. In any case EOTM should be updated to be more newbie/pve friendly as a starter/introduction zone to WvW. Reward track progress should be permanently increased by 100%. It takes anywhere between 4-8 hours to complete a track, it should be lowered to max 4 hours in EOTM, which is about the same time for a match in there as well. We've had complaints over the years over the gift of battle, and this may be a way to get pve players into a less rougher introduction for wvw, we get rid of the half afkers just in wvw for the gift, and better chance they may even come to like wvw game play and play on the real stage. Also would think about improving the end reward for winning EOTM, maybe adding victory points to the worlds involved on a 2/1/1 basis. If green wins all the worlds from green get 2 points added to their score. 4. Guild Names on Claims. Add the abbreviated guild names under the guild icons on the flags of claimed objectives, just a little something extra for those guilds to show off. 5. Add Some More Content Add all dailies to the list every day, so players get to pick and choose which to do, a couple extra potions isn't going to hurt, pve has a ton of dailies in comparison. Add weekly achievements for matches as they had for the tournaments. WvW Season 1 Achievements WvW Season 2 Achievements Obviously the numbers would need to be toned down for a weeks worth rather than 4-6 weeks worth. But some extra goals to achieve especially when things are quiet in wvw isn't a bad thing to have and get some extra reward. 6. Adding Boons to Outnumbered We've been over the value of stats in outnumbered a number of times, whether it would be worth adding or not to help those who are unable to compete, as wvw is completely a numbers game these days. What about adding some boons? doesn't seem to matter to anyone the amount of them that are flying around these days, so what about a one time hit of boons when outnumbered pops? So when someone gets outnumbered(which lasts for 5mins until the next tick), what if the player gets an immediate hit of 30sec(the boon duration cap) of Swiftness, Protection, Fury, Vigor. This is only applied when outnumbered is first applied. 7. Permanently Autohide Mini Pets in WvW Not much else to say here, this is to keep the trolls and newbies under control with useless pets that don't stealth. 8. Remove Supply from SMC SMC shouldn't become a siege fortress, and if the players really want to do so they should bring their own supply from their own sides. 9. Random Territory Events Random storm pass through random territories and add random effect of random durations 2-5mins, every 15mins. Agony effect. Or Torment effect, 1 stack applied every 5sec. Or Null effect, no boons, no conditions can exist in the territory. Or 25% Speed boost. Or 100% Wxp Or 2x PPK Or 2x PPT Or 50% Magic find Or 100% extra participation earned Or it rains with fog effect Or Random mistlock instability. 10. Upgrade Mercenary Camps Captured every 10 mins, every 3mins they spawn a group of 10 veteran npcs to attack a random enemy objective on the map, they move across the map with superspeed, love from anet. If no enemy objectives exist they turn and attack a random ally objective instead. They count toward the kill vet daily! 11. Show Orange Swords From All Maps On All Maps Just a little more information on where "content" is at. 12. Dogmander Tags You know it's time Anet, do it. 13. Add Guild Skins Add custom skins for guild siege, at the very least the very often used guild catapult, sell it on the store if you must, let guilds add a little pizazz and signature to their captures. New map separate from the BL's+EBG with no objectives to capture where people can just fight and fight guilds can fight other fight guilds. Not OS, I mean a big open area with some hills to obscure LoS and a couple of structures scattered about. Mist Instabilities that rotate weekly like from FotM, things that force people to play a little different. Garrison Storm.3046 Posted September 1, 2022 Share Posted September 1, 2022 I'm one of those 'pve - gift of battle' players without a lot of wvw experience so please forgive if this doesn't make sense in the grand scheme of things, but... returning to the action following death can be frustratingly time consuming (even with the Warclaw). Beyond respawning at your waypoint, an option to Teleport to Friend or 'join a commander' or something similar would be nice. Either an implementation of an existing mechanic or something specific to wvw, and there could be a cost attached to the service (financial, maybe a short cooldown, develop a mastery for the function, etc.), but regardless having an alternative option would be a QoL improvement (assuming that doesn't somehow unreasonably compromise the flow of the game). As a roamer I have to disagree. If there were a Join Tag like effect then there would be no more roaming. This would only bolster the boon blob more, and degrade the quality of WvW gameplay. I do however know your pain, and it sucks to have to run all the way back to the zerg, but what is best is to wait for more people to respawn and head back together rather than on your own or take advantage of the respawn to clear your bags/recap objectives that got flipped while your zerg was on the other side of the map. 4 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The lack of waypoints and instant teleport to friends serves many purposes in wvw. 1. Building waypoints in keeps gives them extra importance to capture upgrade and defend. 2. Not being able to teleport back to the frontline of fights right away serves as a minor penalty for dying, and I say minor because there's a lot of pvp games that would hand you much harsher penalties for dying like losing gear or temporary losing stats or even timer respawns. It's also a point to reflect and maybe learn from your death experience, what went wrong? how could you have maybe prevented or avoided it? maybe you're not running the right skills for those situations? were you situational aware of what was happening? 3. Fights are meant to be battles of attrition, you're not meant to constantly be in fights, you fight you die maybe you make it back as reinforcements or maybe not, but at some point there has to be an end. This is also where strategy comes into play, maybe your side could send roamers to go tap keeps so the enemy has a longer run back to battles, like tapping garrison so you force those respawning players back to their spawn instead. Even having a small gank group to delay respawners on their way back to the fight can help your side keep an advantage in the current battle. This becomes especially useful in battles for SMC in EBG. 4. Being able to instantly get to a commander could be game destroying when it comes to objective battles. Anyone with a tag can tag up and anyone can join that squad from anywhere, then with a teleport option they can be ready to defend whatever with little time delay. Even a semi afk scout could pop their tag and have 50 people on them within a minute. Anything in this regard would have to have a very high cooldown for use, like 6-12 hours at the very least so it isn't abused. 5. Be mindful of the reverse effects of this option too. There needs to be periods of down time to regather your group or defenses. If the enemy has pushed into your side all the way to your keep, do you really want them to have the option to instantly teleport reinforcements onto them while they're in your keep? When you beat an attacking side you send them back to their side and both sides then get time to regroup and repair or recapture the damage done. 6. Being able to navigate through hostile territories to get back to your group is part of the game, once you leave spawn there are no safe areas other than your own objectives, learn the map and what routes to take safely, or put on your roaming mobile build and prepare for fights along the way. In spite of my inexperience, I don't afk while I'm in that mode and dutifully follow the Com's direction, but admittedly I am there to get through the Reward Track as soon as possible... I have had some positive experiences in wvw, but overall those experiences are inconsistent, and the negative outweighs the positive, so if a possible solution as I understood from your original post, is to simply accelerate that Reward Track, then I guess that would be helpful for those who are not committed to this playstyle. I wouldn't say that you dying is the problem, we all are forced to WP before we want to at some point. I think the better way to think about it is to reevaluate whether it is more useful to try to get back to the zerg, or more useful for your team to take the opportunity to back cap. If you are getting frustrated by getting ganked too many times trying to get back to the zerg, then use the build/equipment templates to swap to a tanky mobile build. If the transit time is the issue and not getting ganked, then use Runes of Speed and movement skills. You'll learn short cuts and areas where it's easiest to avoid fights as you make the journey multiple times. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Special event where people fight over event,boss or camp and get idk exalted armors, siege turtles, char tanks/helicopters or even more wild the boss mechs or wyverns from pve. Full LOTR orkses screaming Grond at the gates of Minas Tirith . Anything that is super hype and over the top, just enough so people to want to do WvW just because it is happening. I'm all for it, but some people seem to forget that WvW is not solely player versus player and does have some PvE elements to it, and they get their breeches in a bunch over any PvE in WvW. Then you are stuck waiting for veteran creatures or escorting dollies and the random roamer trying to flip camps. WVW really needs to have some varied objectives for the downtime , SPVP has more varied extra objectives than Wvw currently. WVW is way too player oriented and people create the events and the content, the issue is that people are boring and the devs need to manipulate them into doing fun stuff but don't do it. Alpine has the ghosts and the two upper corners with events, EBG had the merc camps and two champs. DBL has the shrines, but no real events anymore. Just have opt in open world pvp at that point with WvW chats opened up when you flag for pvp. Then we can hit up our story stuff and collections and explore some while waiting on EB queue or something. They could just put some small points in core maps to claim territories for scaled up or down rewards and have some supply yak routes to attack and defend and then there wouldn't have to be a bunch of new assets made. I don't think people would want to do WvW by playing on a unique map like that. I think they'd just wonder why WvW maps don't have a lot going on also unless three zergs crash into each other. They were destructible but with effort similar to breaking a gate with a single ram if I remember correctly. I participated in the Desert Borderlands beta and it's quite apparent that ideas such as the laser event while good in theory to stop a stale map from staying stagnant need to be thoroughly tested before implementation. Remove the Veteran Creature Slayer daily or add a map wide event notification before it spawns so that players can fight over it. Make structure upgrades a manual process (NOT the old way with gold costs). This will make it so the larger team must check structures to keep upgrades going. Currently, the time needed for a full ascended set could be months for the casual gamer, unless they want to run in circles for hours in the silver wastes (mind numbing). This modification would have a few positive effects. 1. It would allow new players to get better gear faster, they would have more survivability and therefore be more inclined to stay in this cornerstone. Currently, a new player with exotic equipment can be one shot by over half of the roaming builds. 2. It could potentially generate revenue due to players buying gems so they can convert it into gold. Even if the time gate were removed, the frugal gamer will still have the option to farm the gold and materials. 3. It just makes sense. Another qol, add a drop target key.
