Salvage armors from Collectables

Hi, started playing this and have question about armors I obtained from Collectibles. I use the collectibles and got bunch of armors. Are they not salvageable? I tried and not letting me so not sure if I am doing incorrectly.

Generally speaking, the "free" stuff  you get leveling up and stuff you buy for Karma (like from the heart vendors) is not salvageable.  At least not directly.  You can see if you can sell it at a vendor and you can also try throwing it in the mystic forge, though you will need four of the same type (4 armor or 4 weapons, etc.) to use the mystic forge.  If you can't salvage it, can't vendor it, and can't or don't want to try mystic forging it, deleting is your only option left. 

Another point, DON'T just straight salvage your unidentified gear.  Identify it FIRST and then salvage it.  There is always a chance that you will drop a higher tier item when you identify it, up to and including legendary precursors.

Most level-up type gear (story, level) is now salvageable. Anet did miss a few pieces. I typically hang onto the things that can't be sold or salvaged and toss them into the mystic forge.

Also note that the level 80 karma gear cannot be salvaged, so if you put an expensive rune into it, don't plan on getting it back.

I am guessing it is for lower level as I just started playing and after completing each task/quest, it gives a black/white square like a sun. Used it to obtain armor of different class. I got so many of those. Armor between lvl 5 and 10. I take it those are not salvageable. Thanks everyone.

It is becasue it was newbie gear from the old retierd new player achievement boxes.
