Are there any rules regarding player item and gold exchange?

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I have over 800h in the game and have recently been playing with a friend of mine a lot who is new to gw2. She is very kind and sometimes sends me items she doesn't need, dyes and food items that she enjoys crafting 😊

Now if I remember correctly, there was some kind of rule about "pushing" accounts. I am not sure if that rule was only in WoW (I played that like 15 years ago) or if it was in GW2.
I mean "pushing" in the sense that a smaller accounts sends items/gold to a bigger account - as far as my memory goes this is/was a ban-able offense.

So, if this rule exists in GW2, can someone find a link to it? I have only found the "Code of Conduct" from Arenanet, but did not see any rules about this "pushing".

I could also be 100% wrong, I just want to avoid my account getting banned for something like this 😇

  • There is a restriction of 500 gold coins per week on the total amount any account may receive from a Guild Vault or via in-game mail.
  • An unlimited amount of items that have no assigned value can be transferred by new accounts regardless of their price on the Trading Post.

From reference on some of the limitations: Account.

The only thing I can see is a limitation for Gold that is allowed to be exchanged between account - Guild Vault or in game mail - that is up 500 gold for 7 day period. If player reach that amount in total they will get a message telling them that that they have reached that limit.

There's no equivalent of the rule in WoW and that was/is a popular practice in GW2. Players would buy accounts when they're discounted (or collect/buy codes from free giveaways) and use them to collect login rewards and other things which can be quickly farmed to pass to the main account. (I'm not sure how much it's dropped off now mystic coins have gone down in price, but I assume it's still done frequently.) I'm not aware of anyone being banned for that.

There are rules against selling gold or items for real money, and a chance that an account which routinely sends things to other accounts without getting anything in return may be flagged as a possible gold seller account, but I think Anet usually only worry about large amounts and high value items. The only time I've heard of someone sending items for a legitimate purpose being banned for gold selling it's been something like the person sending out prizes for a community event - so they were being sent and then redistributing thousands of gold, multiple precursors, at least one legendary, some rare skins etc, over the course of a week or two. This was back before the limit on sending gold was put in place and the ones I'm aware of got their accounts back by contacting customer support and providing proof (screenshots, links to websites etc.) that the event happened and that they were the person giving out the prizes. I've also heard that having a note in the mail itself about why you're sending it can help.

For small amounts and low value things I don't think there's anything to worry about.

Perfect answer, thanks a lot.

Yes, right now it's just - as I said - smaller items and dyes in exchange for nothing. So I believe that I am save, like you suggested.

Thanks a lot!

I've been doing this for 10 years now.

There is no worry about this.  There is an Anet partner that put out a video on how he makes gold in game.  He was logging in to something like 40 accounts each day for the login rewards and some JP chests.  All of his profit from those was funneled to his main account(s) to support them.  At one time it was to the tune of 4100 gold per month worth of stuff he was transferring to his main account.  I personally have used an alt account for mats to send my main account for crafting gifts for legendary armor.  Anet is not only alt-toon friendly, it is alt-account friendly.

ANet looks for patterns of transfers that indicate gold or item selling. They don't care if you help out a new player with gold and gear.  If they did, I'd have been banned long ago for supporting my wife's crippling dye addiction!

Oh man, yes the dye addiction is real 😂

Thanks for all the answers here in the thread 👍✌️
