Where are all the engineers?

Where have all the engineers gone? Before PoF engineers of all shapes and sizes could be seen in PvP. Engineers running scrapper, engineers that ran viper, engineers that were nice, engineers that were my vice. Now engineers are but a myth, have they all run off a cliff? I miss you engineers, if you come back I'll buy you all beers.

Gone, aside from the occasional Holoforgesmith. Without Path of Fire, my engineer couldn't do much, even playing as scrapper, an elite spec that I don't care for. Necromancers in particular already gave engineers trouble back then, and now that they have a spec that pretty much ensures melee combat is often suicide (while engineer got another melee spec), it stands to reason that most either switched to something else or tried their luck at Holosmithing, since it's the only way to be viable now. And even then, an engineer isn't really bringing anything that another profession couldn't probably do better.

I've like to try playing it again, but it's clear now that the theme of PvP is "If you don't have Path of Fire, you're fodder." So much for having fun...PvP's only good for the reward tracks.

Also, I don't drink alcohol.

Scourge is the sole reason condi and melee scrappers isnt viable anymore. You just cant go close. I have seen a few power holos do good but the mechanic is just... uuuuuugh. And the rifle was already meh. Many probably changed class entirerly rather than go toward a spec whos main feature is to blow himself up. I know I did. So enjoying my no-stealth scepter/sword/gs heavy cavalier mirage. Using distortion to stomp make me think of the stomp gyro and it bring a tear to my eye every time.

Look 2 turets have 2 seconds of aoe knockback(40 sec cd) and ult has aoe stun+net. Hip shot from rifle has penetration and looks like has no limit of targets. Elixir U grants you might and quickness. So with that setup i rely on knockbacks, net cc and autoattack dmg. It's working when somebody is already engaged with enemy. But stability will break this up. And some classes have a lot of stability and a lot of dmg.(necro, holo for example) Holo just has more advantages: crazy offensive abilities, good defensive skills. Why do we have to risk our lives in core/scrapper setups when we can be strong and tough in holo? But i still use turrets, no mattter what against me. I love them.(I used to be an engineer in TF2. 1.5k hours :) )

You are very correct. I play Holosmith and always get wrecked by the one to two scourges. Other than them, I can do well.

I've had some luck in unranked with scrapper, mostly duo/group queuing with at least one scourge. If I see anyone on the other team that looks threatening to a scourge (thieves and rangers, mostly), I usually go scrapper for the reflects. If not, I use holosmith.

I play power holo (with tools+explosions instead of alchemy because I like grenades and toolkit) - this means I don't have enough cleanse to deal with a scourge bomb - need to immediately leave point and disengage if I so much as touch a scourge aoe. It's .. difficult.

I also play condi scrapper, but everyone is running so much cleanse to deal with scourge and mirage, it's too hard to get my burn to actually stick.

It's just easier to play scourge like everyone else.
