Using Thief steal get up onto keep walls

Is this working as intended? Ran across a guy tonight using it to port up onto keep wall to attack players in his line of sight. As far as I know you aren't supposed to be able to steal up onto or across to anything you can not walk directly to. I thought he might have been bugged, but low and behold I checked the combat spam and he used steal. He couldn't manage to kill me and jumped off and ran away before I could kill him, either way it was annoying.

While I can see people porting others up a wall using sand portal (assuming it works the same way as a mesmer portal), porting up a wall using steal should be impossible. Steal is not a teleport, it's a shadow step. The important difference is that a shadow step requires a valid path to the target. Sometimes this path can be a detour and thus make the shadow step stronger than usual.

If the keep was still completely closed, then the thief shadow-stepping on top of the wall can only be a bug. I bet the thief was as surprised as you were when he stood right in front of you. The problem about the valid path requirement is, that it's very inconsistent. Sometimes the game can't find a valid path even though you're on flat ground (though ANet fixed most of that) and sometimes you can port up walls and cliffs just because you can see some stairs leading up there in the distance.

@Jeknar.6184 said:The fact that I can't blink through a destroyed wall make this even more strange... I know you can blink/shadowstep on some cliffs, but unto keep walls?

Maybe I understand him incorrectly, but it almost sounds like he means to the outside of the wall edge where he could LOS and mellee, but not actually get into the keep. (And yes, it should not be possible)

Be interested to know if it was a destroyable wall, or a permanent wall.

Most of the destroyable walls I have trouble using any shadow step or SB5 onto. The other walls, and stairs from inside I can.

Just to add to this, it was Blue World Valley in EB above the NW gate on the outer wall heading towards SMC right at the corner where the canon placement is that sticks out. I think he may have jumped up onto a shorter structure directly across from that to steal up onto it my location. I assume it would have had to be line of sight and I don't think hugging the wall would work. Pretty sure anyone using that canon can be used as a exploit to get onto the wall with steal. I would suggest someone try it and report back. Walls were fully upgraded not that it maters.

The way I understand is that walls can either be entities or terrain..... and that is a big difference in what can be used for Path Finding. This problem pops up in other areas of the game.... but its rare because there usually a lot of ground to be used for the pathfinding behavior. Destructable walls are considered entities, and have a collision state (and a collision mesh) assigned to it. However, the entity itself seems to obstruct path finding at the anchor. If there is a way to travel through that, I'm willing to bet its a wall on uneven terrain. A second thing I've noticed is that stairs are not valid path finding routes. I've been assuming thats because of the entity status of the wall already making it invalid for path finding, but I've never tested it on a static (non-destroyable) wall.

You'd have to be more specific in regards to 'keep wall'? If it's EBG red keeps most outerlier walls (near N SMC) then yes, you can use teleports/blinks etc to get up there.

If you meant a thief teleporting to you onto an actual closed keep wall then no, that should not be possible. It would require a valid 'path to target', usually staircases deny this if the thief were trying to teleport up to you from the ground on the inside.

Did it happen near a gate? Just curious.Edit: nm just saw the later posts. Usually I find tp skills often work "weird" near gates.
