Are there any SMG-like rifles?

I have the Zafirah's Rifle skin, but it's a big bolty and just looks wrong with Rifle Burst. I was wondering if there were any skins that anyone knows of that are more compact (and perhaps black/gunmetal) that would look a bit better firing a 3-round burst? Like is there anything SMG-ish?

 

Also, completely unrelated question, but is what is the best gun-oriented engineer specialization? Mine is currently a holosmith and... that clearly isn't it.

The Repeating Rifle is the closest one I can think of. Don't think there's a version that has a black color scheme though.

Core feels best with rifle. Not that it's a good feel...

I recommend viewing all the rifle skins available in the skins tab in the bank, if you're aware of that. It has most if not all; rarely something may not show up, but it's all I use.

There are some very compact rifle skins, but nothing I would truelly call "SMG-ish" 😕

The most compact would be super adventure box skins, and privateer rifle (which is basically slightly elongated flintlock pistol).

Outside of that steam rifle, and monster hunter rifle seems to be somewhat fitting to the new engineer AA.

One of biggest reasons why I don't do the power mecha is lack of rifle skin that would fit the style I am going for with this character.

I can recommend two rifles that fit for shooter-themed characters, but none of them looks like an SMG (had to google the term, no clue if I found the right one):

- Beastslayer Rifle - Big automated gun, has a machine-sound when drawn.
- Velocitas Eradico - Self folding/unfolding automated rifle that has unique shooting-sound. It is one of the best picks if you want to play a shooter, but accidentally opened the GW2 launcher.

Most people who had this request, were satisfied with the Velocitas Eradico. The sound-effect and the folding animations are hard to challenge. It is not black and does not look like metal. But to be fair, most cosplays in GW2 are a compromise. You never get exactly what you want. The images I found of an SMG look like they would not fit into the game. However, as this request comes more frequently, the developers may grant your wish in the future.

Rifle Mechanist currently works for all game-modes. The above mentioned Velocitas Eradico also fits nicely with the Jade Mech (sound) if the traits are picked for ranged damage (3-3-1).

They all look silly bar a few exceptions, none of them were meant to spit that many projectiles beyond the Beastslayer rifle that has drastically increased in price due to the sudden influx of engineer mains. If you don't mind being on the wasterlander side of things, the Ogre Blaster is an okay, fairly compact skin that I carried with me for years, but that's about it.

For my part I can't take rifle mech seriously so I just carry a HMS Divinity with a pirate captain look.

Not SMG-esque in shape or size, but I recently discovered the plasma rifle skin, which has a modern gunmetal-like finish. When drawn it has an extended plasma barrel, but I think it really fits with the engineer's class fantasy.

I'll echo that Rifle Mechanist would fit your playstyle more. But in the off-chance you stick with Holosmith (or find the jade mech cramps your style), I also recommend the Inquest Mark II as a great sword skin. Of course, the default Holosmith lightsaber does the job as well.

It's definitely a firefly reference.  There's a similar reference in outer worlds.

This may or may not be what you're looking for, but I LOVE Privateer Rifle skin! Compact and elegant!

Not really look like SMG but Desert King Rifle is also close (well, imo that is).
