Can we please get a way to turn off or tone down player spells!

Doing Kaineng Overlook is an absolute mess with some classes. You can not see the boss's arrow position when a reaper goes ham or many other classes that have aoe like that. Its been long enough that we should be able to separate player spells from environment to clean up the screen. I am not going to turn my graphics down and make the game look terrible just so I can see the bosses spells. But we have to put up with visual vomit all over the bosses hit box. Too much visual clutter it would be nice to not have every stinking thing in the environment covered over by a bazzillion spell effects and infusions and gear effects popping off , maybe then you can actually see the target /sarc

Uhm cant you see were the boss is facing without the arrow he always dashes were he is looking.

Cant even see the boss he is covered in a green fog thanks to the reaper. When you have settings on high and ultra the entire fight is a giant laser and light show. He is a small boss with a small animation box its all covered. i dont want to turn down my graphics then the game is dull looking

As I've mentioned before, adding Diablo 3 style transparency to other players' pets and effects would help massively.

Make it a slider to you can tailor it to your own liking.

But cynically, people have been asking for ways to tone down effect spam since launch, and ANet have done precisely diddly-squat to address these complaints.

In fact, one could argue they've leaned even harder in the other direction, adding shaders and more legendary effects.

The setting that hides players should also hide all their effects and sounds. Its been requested for nearly a decade and it still hasn't been implemented. But don't worry, they do hide most of the effects from the players in your party (making it hard to pull off combos), because that's the real problem.

I've asked for years for an option to turn down all that particle vomit.

As far as I am aware, Arenanet has never even acknowledged that this is an issue.

How can they not? Its blasted all over the forums, social media, youtube, with thousands of examples. It detracts from gameplay , its far too much

The green fog is most likely rangers untamed pet.

Yoshi P did it for FF14 at launch. I wonder why Anet fails to do it.

Not only that but customizable hotbars and buttons! I love that I can make a macro button in- game that I can place on an extra hotbar at the bottom of my screen and I can click it to instantly hide and unhide other players' effects depending on how many people are near. So good!!!

The commands are:

/battleeffect party off/on

/battleeffect other off/on

I love it so much!! all games need ^___________^

I'm fine most of the time with effects, but some fights can be a real nightmare with lots of flashing, Boneskinner is the worst with how hard it can be too see the small AoE's that insta kill you. Dragonstorm also is a visual mess of AoE's, it's not difficult but holy hell it's insane.

What shocks me is for how long people have been requesting this for, over 10 years someone in this thread said, that's ridiculous, its such a basic feature that should be in any flashy MMO.  Hopefully they do add it.

It doesn't even have to be all effects, you can just chose from weapon skills, armour effects, decreasing the size of player pets, or all of those, similar to how its done in FF14, I can tell you having other players Jade Mechs half the size would help visual clutter a lot.

watch boneskinner instead when it raises their right hand it is time to move since you will be down in 2 seconds.

Someone once told me the reason they won't fix this is because so many players pay extra to look like space lazer disco balls constantly going supernova and that if they knew others couldn't always see their amazing splendor all of GW2 would shut down due to lack of income. I'd like to think more of people but... I mean just look at the skyscale and turtle visual spam that so many seem to deliberately cause -- and that's easy mode "griefing". (tbh I don't think most of them are griefing, so many just don't notice or care.)

I see a "confused" reaction. Try doing the "Daily Forsaken Fortune Minidungeon" during prime time with a cloud of skyscales going over you while you try to escort the NPC over the jumps and you won't be confused anymore.

  • 4 weeks later...

Preface this with saying;

- This is my First Forum post.

- I'm a long time fan of the game, I've been playing since launch (with occasional hiatuses).

- I criticize because I want the game to be better... not because I just want a place to whine...

- I know these posts have been made before, but I felt like a needed to reiterate, since this issue seem to consistently go unaddressed.

Gw2 has always had issues with visual clutter, and it has only progressively got worse over the last decade.

The inclusion of more and more flashy skins, whether they be weapons, armour or mounts with blown out brightness, bloom effects and animated textures.

Mechs filling the screen, over the top skills effects , some minis, some novelties and infusion stacking.

It was too much years ago and now it's just getting absurd.

I am mildly light/motion sensitive myself , hell, I avoid playing Mesmer and Guardian for extended periods of time because their skills are a lot brighter and visually overwhelming than most of the other classes and I refused to make any of the legendary trinkets until an option to turn off their effects was eventually added.

I can't imagine what it's like for people who suffer more severely, but still want to enjoy the game.

Please, make it a priority to implement more options into the game to reduce visual clutter and improve accessibility.

These options, if and where possible, would be greatly appreciated by many, and I know have been requested time and time again.

- An option to scale transparency on ally skill effects.

- Option to scale ally mech size.

- Option to toggle off other players infusions/auras. (also removes any unique audio)

- Option to toggle off other players minis. (also removes any unique audio)

Just as some examples.

I understand some people may be against a few of these options, as they want to show off their virtual shinies, and not have them potentially invisible to other players, however I believe accessibility is more important, and would be an overall well received quality of life improvement to the game.

(FYI - I'm aware you can toggle character model limit and quality to lowest (already have it on low), which helps, but I'm looking for some more in-depth options, and would still like to admire other peoples fashion rather than resorting to everyone having faceless default models.)

Hopefully I am not entirely preaching to the void here, It would be a blessing if Anet at least acknowledged the issue and were open to working on fixes to be implemented in the future, however as far as I am currently aware, nothing of the like has been said or promised.

You are preaching to the void. This is one of the most requested features in the history of the game and we have generally seen a worsening of the problem over the years. They have no seeming interest or desire to ever reduce the visual noise, rather it often feels like they want more and more flashy effects

More important than skin effects would be spell effects. The effects on skins are generally pretty minor, but the real problem is that when enough people are throwing around enough flashy spell effects, the animations of human sized bosses can become near impossible to read which is an actual detriment to gameplay.

FF14 has the option to turn down other players' spell effects to only the ones that would be relevant to your own decision making (e.g. combo fields, ground targetted regen etc.).

Agreed. The spell effects hitting the target are the primary issue. Sometimes the boss is barely visible
