Crazy idea and I'm sure it's been said before but....

What if weapon unlocks for elite specs weren't tied to the spec anymore but only tied to the expansion? So you could use them across multiple specs.

I can't think of anything that would inherently break, outside of maybe the recent reworks to sword 3 for mes but that functionality is tied to a core weapon + elite spec.

Would add a lot of value to all specs/professions and more build variety.

Vindicator with Shield

Herald with GS

WB with Longbow

Spectre/DD with Rifle

Druid with Hammer

Mech with Hammer

Tempest with Sword

Virtuoso with Shield

These all sound incredibly fun to deal with -_-

Also, Mirage with Dagger, or Weaver with Hammer, would work how exactly?

Balance Nightmare aside.

Some classes would get a way better deal here then others.

Whats Warrior supposed to do with Torch on any other spec, for example.

While looking at other classes... some crazy kitten there.

But not gonna lie. Soulbeast with Hammer makes my mouth water.

It'd be too advantageous for specific professions, while entire useless for others.

For example, Pistol/Torch Harmbingers and Scourges would become things.

Sword/Warhorn Elementalists might not be all that fine either.

I don't think either of these would be healthy for the game.

And than you have the polar opposite issue:

Engineer got 2 main hand weapons and one two-handed weapons.

Warrior got three offhand weapons and one main hand weapon.

Ranger and Thief each got two two-handed weapons and one main hand weapon.

Revenant got two two-handed weapons and one offhand weapon.

That's five professions that would gain literally nothing from that idea (aside maybe warrior, but would anyone really play with Dagger/Torch or Dagger/Pistol?) and two professions that gain something from it.

Although I'm not so sure if it'd be good for Guardian or Mesmer.

Rifle without Malice or the Deadeye traitline? Good luck with that.

Yeah, it wouldn't hit as hard, but Deadeye's weakness is its incredibly squishy, so pairing it with Spectre would be very toxic. Don't need malice for 2-spam. Not saying it'd necessarily be super-OP, but it'd definitely be super annoying.

Its big weakness is that projectiles are too easy to block, its squishy and its not that hard to avoid damage from it. Pairing it with Spectre, well you fix it being squishy, but the rest gets even worse. 2-spam is on par with pistol/pistol, and worse than spectre 3 spam on a power buid. Significantly so.

How would this be any different than weaver?

Tempest actually has sustain/CC/boons 😄 Weaver is hot garbage right now..... Tempest on the other hand 😄

The diffrence is literally elemental bastion, permanent -39% protection, permanent projectiledenial and shockaura carrying tempest.
