Escape from Lion's Arch?

The update announcement mentions a strike mission for Old Lion's Court and a public instance for The Battle for Lion's Arch. They don't mention Escape from Lion's Arch though, another public event that took place before these in the story. Is it just implemented as a story instance or left out completely?

I noticed this too and it's hard to tell because it could just be that the public instance in the re-release is called The Battle for Lion's Arch, rather than referring to the original release's version of the map which then was called Lion's Arch (Enemy Controlled).
The Battle for Lion's Arch zone did not have much in the way of story or content in all honesty - 15 repeating events (3 defense+3 retake events, 3 mob slay events, and 6 champion events) plus the Prime Hologram world boss chain. Most of the actual content was in the Escape from Lion's Arch zone, Lion's Arch (Under Attack!), which is also where ~80% of the story for the entire S1 finale (particularly the story within Lion's Arch itself) is.

We'll have to sit and wait for next week to find out, sadly.

What I'm hoping is episode plays like this:

1. Episode starts with the very quiet and lowkey instance of Marjory comforting Kasmeer about her tragic family story, Braham and Rox argument of warband vs friends AND taimi's I suppose technical introduction (and conversation with Logan and Braham). We go to the dead end bar where Kasmeer and Marjory put the puzzle of clues together and realize Scarlet will attack LA (La bombing cinematic happens).

 

2. A very condensed, soloable, and easy linear escort of various citizens to the asura gate to escape the disaster. We arrive at gendarran fields seeing all the dead and mourning as well as Ellen Kiel, Rox, Braham, Kasmeer, Marjory, and Heal-o-Tron small stories within the camp but all agree to stop Scarlet once and for all.............also finally meeting Canach and Evon Gnashblade.

 

3. Here is the strike mission/squad instance, the battle of Lion's Arch. DO events to fill up a bar, once filled Scarlet will summon 3 giant watchknights, split into 3 groups helping Rox and Braham, Kasmeer and marjory, and Ellen Kiel and Heal-o-Tron once defeated all parties borad the breachmaker for the final fight against Scarlet's massive hologram

4. Solo instance now. Enter the unstable breachmaker and defeat Scarlet one final time, cutscene happens.

 

5. Wishful thinking but at the end of Season 2 there was a small scene showing what happened to Hero-Tron and Ellen Kiel it be nice if Anet could incorporate the scene as a closed chapter for these important recurring allies, as well as small addition to Canach foreshadowing his return in season 2. We reunite with Braham, Rox, Kasmeer, and marjory celebrating our victory, Taimi arrives to join us and spoiler spoiler the end.

There! that should be 5-6 steps average for a season 1 episode. 2-3 years later I'm sure anet will add the Southsun and Consortim arc properly introducing Kasmeer, Canach, Ellen Kiel, and Job-o-Tron 😛

They confirmed that the group public instance won't be part of the story, unlike Tower of Nightmares. So while we'll (hopefully) get this stuff, it shouldn't be part of the story journal itself - more akin, I imagine, to Dragon's End meta for EoD's Act 5 story.

Other than that I largely agree with you. I am hoping the story journal will look like:

1. A Moment's Peace + Talking to Canach / Sheriff Siriam about Mai Trin's escape / the Energy Probe + Advanced Warning
2. Talking to Braham / Taimi about Mai Trin's escape + A Study in Scarlet + LA Bombing cinematic (+ optional Escape from Lion's Arch / Battle for Lion's Arch public group instance via "True Ending" styled achievement)
3. Assault Knights + Battle on the Breachmaker
4. Scarlet's End
5. Breachmaker destruction in LA (cutscene + dialogue between Kiel/Magnus/Evon/Hero-Tron) + Aftermath

Probably just wishful thinking though.

Watching a stream and so far VERY happy, saw the stream and apparently "escape from LA" is single instance, gendarran camp is instance with bunch of "optional dialogue" (and teensy bit extra lines from my fav golem 😛) and battle for LA full map as instanced squad map

They did not. They said story is not required for the public version. They didn't say the public version isn't required for story.

Evon's pathing is really buggy in the story instance. He kept returning to his starting position and just stopping for no reason.
