Add optional servers

Recommended Posts

Special servers are all the rage now. Add in other server options. Here are 2 types I could think of right now.

1. PvP server, where you can fight, gank and grief other players in the open world. Maybe if we stop being so nice in-game, we can let out our true emotions in Tyria instead of being toxic on the forums.

2. Sub-fee server. If you roll a character here, all outfits are available, bank space maxed out, free barber, etc. with a sub fee.

im sure ya’ll can think of more.

The only 'special" servers that have always been "all the rage", as far as i remember, were the cases of creating non-PvP instances where PvP ones were a baseline before. For some reason it never worked out the other way (almost as if, i don't know, PvE players outnumbered PvP ones by a large margin. Shocking, i know). Incidentally, those types of "special servers" in GW2 are a baseline, so we don;t need to create them.

So you would only see other players who opt in on those servers? So we'd essentially have what we currently have, but then players split between 3 versions? Yeah, that sounds like an awesome idea.

The "all unlocked" would have to be permanent, you'd have to sign a lifetime contract for it. Think about it.

Hmmm i kinda like the second idea .

Like paying 13 dollares per month to have unlocked every skin (extra wardrope window) and by doing that content that normaly have the skin  , you unlock more  dye slots in that skin , or comes with a random dye that you haven't unlocked , or you get different spells effect (dark chaos fireball) by doing the said content

If you pay 3 months (not back to back) , you unlock 3 radom sets + rando utility slot (extra bag space) to your permanalty wardrope , and this effect scales drammatically in the next tier >> 6 months > 9 sets (again not back to back paying each month .... they will have the urge of "one more coin")

PvP servers can work by signing up to an npc/ui icon(like pvp swords) and getting a "shard" of the map at specific times (2 hours) , like Public Strikes . And that time create underground bosses in WvW (imagine this as an invert-"Stranger Things" castle) , for the PvErs to join via portal and not boring killing the door , while th defenders will transform into npc(or attack from range in the walls) .Iit will a lesser form of PvP...more aprochable and both cases no need to create huge new assets

Pretty much nothing stopping you from paying a monthly fee on your own and purchasing all of these things.

Yeah we will have 3 options:

a) Use gold

b) Use money (current situation)

c) "Rend evything  , if you are lucky (random) 1 year from now  , you can get 12 random skins (rather than using option "B" and bying 9-10 guarantee armors of your choise)"

Edit: to prevent people from crying p2w like Terra , then accounts who are 1year old enought they can use this option

No, they're not.

Just play WvW?

Just spend money on the gemstore monthly, that's your monthly sub option.

You guys are hopeless. If you don't like those options, SIMPLY DO NOT JOIN THOSE SERVERS.

As for the tired old "pay for gems every month", you're paying for the people who aren't paying as well. The price is higher. With a sub, you'd get more for your $15 than if you bought gems. You cannot unlock every outfit and free barber and so on with $15 a month right now. Jesus.

Yes. That's exactly what has been happening in the past. Which is why for the long time the only "special servers" initiatives i have seen to actually work in MMORPGs were PvE splits from originally PvP servers. All other initiatives are generally rare, and when they do happen, they usually end up in spectacular failure. So, quite the opposite of your "all the rage" description, unless by it you mean players foaming at the mouth and ragequitting at the mere mention of such ideas.

The idea of paying a sub and unlocking everything sounds great until you think it through. What happens when you want to stop paying? Does everything suddenly get locked, leaving your characters unclothed in the middle of LA? Or is it game over, start again on a different server? And what about basic human psychology; once you have everything unlocked what's your incentive to continue playing the game? Just so you can pose in the city, rotating through 1000 skins?

It's not about...

... by the reactions you get we can assume that it's simply bad idea. Becouse like others already mentioned we have WvW for this exact reason. So in my opinion it would be waste of resources that could be put into reviving and improving WvW.

PvP servers sound like you were  getting wrecked in WvW and want to take out your anger on people with PvE builds instead of getting good.

Well, nothing would change since there would still be free servers and a vast majority would choose to play on those anyways..  You're also wrong.  You can get a "free" (As in free to use forever once you purchase it), permanent barber.  Gems to gold, buy the permanent hair stylist contract of the trading post.  As for outfits, you're honestly the first person I can recall in recent memory to even suggest they want outfits unironically.

Sub fees would kill GW2.  Then, who would you gank in OWPvP?
