I guess I’m missing on where it says you can acquire them?

For ascended gear, taken directly from the previous links :

For legendary gear, the method is specific to each item. Please click on the item you want in the lists below, also taken directly from the previous links :

Ah you had to click on each individually… ok ty. I’m trying but I’m getting overwhelmed lol.

EDIT: I’ve played WoW and SWTOR for 10 years each and I don’t remember ever being this overwhelmed. There is just SO MUCH to this game. Even the gear acquisition has many ways to get them when most MMOs only have 2-3 ways to acquire end game gear.

Yes, getting endgame gear is a bit of work, but remember, once you get it you will never need to replace it.  With ascended you might need to get some new trinkets, but the weapons and armour can be stat changed in the mystic forge, and legendary stuff can just be stat changed when you are not in combat.  Other than the addition of ascended weapons and armour there has never been a stat increase in game, I am pretty sure ascended trinkets were in game from day one, but it has been awhile, so I might be mistaken.

TLDR:  It is worth the grind, will last the life of the game.

I’m not complaining. There is just so much to the game. It gets overwhelming at times but at least there’s always something to do.

Sorry if I came across as suggesting you were complaining, not my intent.  Rather, I was just saying it can be a bit of a grind, no doubt about it, but it is worth it.

Ascended gear was introduced in LS1 irrc. You needed it for fractals because of the agony.

That could be correct, I was not a day one player, but I started around Wintersday year one, got the game for Christmas (along with a computer that would run it, if I had already had the new comp I would have been in beta).  I was in game for LS1, and I recall being able to get rings and such of laurels.  I am pretty sure that the ascended armour/weapons came a bit later than that though.  All that said, I seem to recall that FotM was intended from the start, but there were some issues in implementation, so it was delayed, which suggest that ascended gear was intended from the start, but maybe not.

One of the really nice things about guild wars 2 is that although yes the grind can suck and seem overwhelming especially when you 1st take a look at the wiki but using SWTOR as an example I can say once you get the good gear here you never ever have to regrind top tier.

I've played a ton of swtor and the absolute biggest thing that turned me off was the constant gear treadmill. Taking breaks in swtor was devastating compared to taking breaks in gw2. I know bolster is very easy to manipulate but still. I ground out from the og battlemaster all the way through the end of that eternal empire bs. Gw2 is so much better. Screw gear treadmills!

That's the thing about picking up a game that is 10 years old, there is 10 years of content (ish) to overwhelm yourself with.  Think about what it would be like to walk into WoW or SWTOR today as a complete noob, that's where you're at with GW2.  Congrats to coming over and checking Tyria out!  Welcome to GW2!  My best advice, when you start feeling overwhelmed, just remember that Rome wasn't built in a single day and you WILL get there someday.  Take your time, enjoy yourself, and don't get burnt out trying to get to the "end" all in one day.

Last piece of advice:  If you have questions, feel free to ask in map chat.  Sometimes (rarely) you will run into a jerk, but, this game and this community really seems to enjoy helping each other out all the time.
