Looking for a beginner friendly build

Any Class in particular that has taken your fancy ? There are quite many beginner friendly builds possible across all classes, even for the piano classes (engineer/elementalist)

Edit : Shouldn't write posts early morning, missed the Ele part.

I recommend a fire elementalist, using Fire, Arcane and Lightning, and using the Glyph of storm, glyph of lesser elementals and glyph of Elementals. Arcane can be used to supplement your damage through Evasive Arcana and additional effects to your attacks. It meshes well with Condi or Power, so stat wise a Viper build works very nicely. I'll make a more detailed post over lunch >.<

Darn, was hoping someone would post before I come back to avoid double posting... Anyhow, here goes :

[&DQYfJSUdOBUXAScPvgHLAMsATgFyAI4AJgCWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA=] Copy that into your ingame chat and it'll display the build I'm using, you can then right click it to apply it to a build template if you choose to try it

This is a Fire Weaver variant that I'm using at the moment. It's exceptionally potent in PvE (untested in raids however). I use a staff, for reason I'll detail a bit further.

The stats recommended are Viper, however Viper is not something you can access easily in the early beginning stages of the game. So you may want to use a Carrion (more Health less immediate damage) or Berserker (more immediate damage a Lot less condi damage), which are more readily available.

On the Fire trait line, you want things that feeds Might stacks, and feeds off of it. Might boost both immediate damage and condi damage (hence why Viper is recommended), that's why you generally use Power Overwhelming and Pyromancer's Puissance, as it creates a feedback loop where you gain more power simply for using Fire skills.

Arcane is used to supplement your skill usage, Arcane Precision will actually work in conjuction with Burning Precision, making the combo all the more potent, and requiring little input from you. So long as you crit, you deal burn damage. This also work in conjunction with Signet of Fire, resulting in a lot of passive burning stack from any attacks. They have internal cooldown, but again it let's you deal damage with little input from you, so you can focus on other things (like moving around, and aiming). That keys with the other important trait in Arcane and that is Evasive Arcana (recently fixed ! Party Time !). On fire, it will create an area Burn whenever you dodge. It works Wonders with Staff 4, as you can dodge into or behind an enemy, and use Staff 4 to quickly create a line of fire Through them, doubling your fire damage.

The Weaver line here is used to mix and match elements, you'll often have to switch to and back from Water and Earth, for healing, and bridging cooldowns respectively. I tend to use Lightning less unless I need a little CC, but I use little of it. Elements of Rage and Weaver's Prowess are the most important traits for this setup, as it let's you add additional firepower for just switching to another element. You Can trigger Weaver's Prowess to switch to Earth, and use the newly acquired staff 3 Pyroclastic Blast to lay down an additional field of fire, before returning to Fire as a whole, triggering Elements of Rage. Doing it fast enough let you have a very short time window where you can have both buffs active.

The skills used will actually mesh correctly with a Lightning setup instead of Weaver if you use the Inscription trait, which lessen cooldowns for Glyphs and give them an additional effect, that's why most of the skills in there are Glyphs :D.

Regarding the usage of said Glyphs, you essentially want to keep a cadre of Fire elementals summoned at all time, including the Elite skill Elemental. The elementals are going to be useful to you for additional damage and drawing aggro, but also by bodyblocking projectiles for you. They move quickly enough that you dont have to fear them lagging behind. They also all have a special attack where they deal Area of Effect burning. The Elite elemental is where it's at though 😄 There is a little used trick with it. The Elite Elemental has a skill that you can trigger, and it'll deal a fair amount of damage to enemies in a small area. Used along with Lesser Arcane Shield from Arcane, you create a bubble of invulnerability around you for a very short time, but most importantly, that skill can used While your character is also casting ! Essentially, you want to cast Meteor Shower with your staff 5, and while casting, use your Elite Elemental's skill to continue dealing damage, and trigger the shield to ensure you're not taken out mid cast. Glyph of Storm can be used to supplement an already cast Meteor Shower, as it's fast to cast and deal a fair amount of damage.

Aaaand, there are more to all of that, but I think I've said more than enough there 😛 Have a go at it, and see if that's something you'd enjoy, hope I didn't make it too long

Edit : Nope ! Forgot the runes and Sigils...

Rune wise I use Rune of Baelfire, to feed more Power, and the 6th Rune turn a small amount of Power into Expertise, feeding the condi side, while increasing Burning duration by a Lot. This helps you stack a Lot of Burning on entire groups of enemies, as Staff is an Area of Effect weapon.

Sigils use a simple Sigil of Fire and Sigil of Force, though you could make a case for a Sigil of Bursting or Malice, if you have money to put in, instead of the Sigil of Fire. I recommend keeping a moderate amount of balance between Power damage and Condi damage, so Sigil of Force is sorta recommended still.

As the title says I'm looking for a beginner friendly ele build it doesn't have to be core if this is possible I have yet to find a LI yet please and thank you

It will be used for open world story mode and instanced pve

Most really good builds arent LI at all for elementalist, so keep that in mind.

What I'd recommend you would be something like that:

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?PGQAYlJwYZrMKGJO6SbRfA-zxIY1ogvMqOBSvA0YaOwmFA-e

This is one variant of a build I play for quite a while, and it is very good for open world content, as well as instanced pve (For fractals and raids you need a different build though). It is quite defenisve, offers extremely high sustainability, a large array of powerful buffs, as well as decent (but not high) dps, and massive cc.

Some important points:

- Celestial gear is a MUST.

- Runes, Buffs, as well as the sigils are interchangeable depending on whether you want to play more offensively or more defensively.

- Other traitlines which offer some other nice bonuses are: Arcane (more support/heal), Earth (condi dps), air (fury, direct dps). I'd never want to switch away from water because of condi removal, which is very strong.

- The same goes for the used utilities/elite skill. Depending on the situation other skills might be far better than what I use here.

The idea is to use the staff to dish out mass AoE, with which you can charge energy very quickly and provide fields for pushing out many buffs as well as massive group support. It is okay in many situations, but very good for open world.

I wouldn't use it for high-level fractals or raids though, because other options are far better.

I'd recommend this build for open world/story mode. It aint the easiest, pretty high APM, but quite forgiving at the same time. I've picked a combo of cele/marau gear, but you can pretty much take any stat between celestial and berserker

Its a good build to get familiar to the catalyst and a great step towards later strike/raid content since it offers similar playstyle.

If you dont want to learn harder/faster rotations all the time you probably won't find much enjoyment in playing the elementalist. Tempest offers a couple relatively LI builds, but they aren't good enough for higher end instanced PvE, so you'll have to fully relearn a spec by then.

BttH sword/dagger Weaver is probably the easiest build for instanced PvE content. Easy straightforward rotation although you are very squishy and melee only. You can play sw/d in open world/story mode aswell, but its playstyle will be quite abit different from the instanced PvE one whereas the catalyst plays roughly the same.

the latest changes to scepter made condi scepter fairly easy to play, and being condi (and largely burn focused) means it can simply sit in fire and use the old trick of using dire/rabid/trailblazer stats for solo content to make it as tank n spank as desired, as long the setup is built for high condi dmg and ideally 90% or more burn duration

the best build to do this on would probably be the fire-camping tempest build (which is already designed to be on the easier side), but the basic principles can also be applied to other especs as well (and core)
