Passive Aggressive Emoji's plaguing the forums

Also it's not that 90% of people are wrong, it's that 90% of the posters content is being disagreed with.

"Disagreeing" on something like a given technical advice that is the actual solution to an OP's technical issue/question is not a matter of opinion -- it's pure trolling.

coming from someone whos entire posting history has  around 80%+ confused reactions I would say you generally tend not to know what you're talking about.

Haha 😄  I think if you're assessing truth based on the number of emojis on an internet forum, then maybe I'm not the one who doesn't know what they're talking about.

Why do you think the opinion of the majority is of so little value? Sure, it isn't always right and it certainly doesn't mean you have to agree with it.

But for a business like Arena Net surely what the majority thinks/wants is of quite a lot of interest. Even if Arena Net later decide to ignore the majority because they think they are wrong, at least they knew what forum users thought they wanted.

Similarly it seems to me it has value for everyone else. If someone posts that "change X has wrecked the game" then it provides useful context to see whether 2 people or 20+ people like that post.

If only the majority of forum goers represented a majority of the playerbase.  Seeing this majority as a majority of players is probably misleading in and of itself.

It's actually even less reflective than tha, because the sample is "People who use emojis on the forum".  Just looking at a random recent thread (to count easily), the "Hiss emote" thread currently has 30 emojis on it, with 322 views.  It's also entirely plausible that there's a correlation between "inclination to post emojis" and "negativity".  At a minimum, if you agree with a post, then there's less to add by responding by default.

At least anecdotally, the forum definitely feels unreflective of the player base, being both less friendly and more elitist (the latter to be expected, as the more casual a player is, the less likely they are to bother going to a related forum).  So we're on a biased subsample of a biased sample, with a poor sampling method.

This is really important to remember everywhere on these forums 🙂

I use the emojis all the time, mostly because I post on reddit more than here now, and I'm just used to it.  Is it pointless here? Sure it is.  But the value of the forums isn't really affected by it either. It's not like reddit, where  you become invisible if you get enough downvotes.

There's a lot of confused emojis on every thread. Problem with those is that usually no clue what they are confused about or even what they mean by it (yeah, its kinda like disagree, but who really knows). Dont mind them personally, but they do not add anything of value to the discussion. Theres loads of people here trying to explain what those reactions REALLY mean and it usually means system is not functioning if you need to try to explain it.

I think simpler reaction system would serve the forum a lot better ('like/agree', 'dislike/disagree' would be enough).

So take away all negative reactions and leave only heart, thanks, or thumbs up available, if you dont like something there would be two options. Post a response or just dont rate it.

Edit: They did that on youtube lmao

Well, it certainly doesn't keep anyone up at night. If anything, one can only feel sorry for those trolling others that way. It's a pathetic display of character. 😄
