is Windows 11 still unsupported for GW2

I have never heard of not supporting a fully released upgrade of an operating system.  Where did you hear this from?  Are you sure it isn't something outdated from when Win11 was in "pre-release" status a year ago?

Many times the CS Team has stated in Support Ticket replies that they could not help the account because the account was using Windows 11 and Windows 11 was not supported (by ArenaNet).

I have not seen any posts about this recently, though, so the policy might have changed.

Just got a new laptop with win11 on it, all the other games are functioning correctly. Remembered GW2 and how much I loved it, installed it from Steam, hit the play button but oh, the launcher pops up for 1 sec or less and then disappears. No track of it in task manager. At this point I'm lost. Tried a bunch of steps and nothing. I might reinstall my windows, cause who knows...sigh.

Hello there,

Upon checking your DxDiag file, we see that your current operating system is Windows 11. Unfortunately, even though Windows 11 has been released, this is currently an unsupported operating system.

However, we would like you to try to run the game in compatibility mode to make sure that your OS is not contributing to the issue. Please follow the steps given below:
1. Right click on the launcher
2. Click on Properties.
3. Click on the Compatibility tab.
4. Check the Run this program in compatibility mode box.
5. Click on the drop down menu arrow and try to select a previous version of Windows then click Ok.
6. Right click on the launcher and click run as administrator.

If the issue still persists, we can still try and provide possible workarounds but we cannot guarantee that they will work due to compatibility issues. Please update this ticket if you wish to proceed with the possible workarounds.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

I've been using Windows 11 since it came out and have been using GW2 daily since with no issues.

I was a bit more cautious & waited a while after Windows 11 was released, to update my os. Have been using Windows 11 for quite a few months now & like Kiof, have had no problems at all running GW2.

The wiki makes no mention of Windows 11 as being unsupported, only Wine, so maybe that should be added there.

I'm guessing that the new computer the op bought is running Windows 11 - 64 bit & if so, then there must be some other reason for his not being able to run the game.

I have been reading that Windows 11 isn't supported.  It has been a year since this information was released. So is it still not supported.  Thank you

Sorry might not be any help to any of you, that are having problems.

I just picked up a new gaming laptop with win 11 and I have had no problems running the game as of late.

How do you launch the game? Is it through Steam or the stand alone client?

Check all updates for Win 11 and GPU drivers from the manufacture. That might fix the problem. I do know out drivers can prevent the game from launching on Win 10. It can also go with Win 11. But I can not speak for the Steam client version. However, the Steam client could be the culprit. Also make sure your are running the 32 or 64 bit version. If your running a 64 bit client on a 32 bit system that, may or may not cause problems.

If anyone knows anything else would like to hear.

At first I thought the issue was with the steam client indeed, but after getting the installer from Anet and seeing the problem still goes on...idk man. I gave up lol. Rn I'm reinstalling the windows, will let you know if it works or nah.

EDIT: LMAO just installed windows 10 and it's working, the game is installing (before my launcher would only pop up and disappear right away). I got it straight up from their site, not bothered with Steam right now (guess I was way too scared to try again haha)

Yeah that's weird. At least it works for you on Win 10. Hope Anet does investigating and gets a patch out for those with the problem on Win 11.

This is amazing.

You'd think there would be something about it on the support website.  It's been released for over a year.

I run GW2 on Windows 11 with zero problems, btw.  I'm going to make a wild guess that it's related to Coherent and part of the reason Anet plans to replace it.

Yeah...that is weird. Sorry you're having the issues. I've been running GW2 on my W11 setup with zero issues. There are so many things that can mess with the client running, OS patches, GPU driver issues, wonky overlays, etc. Still pretty poor that ANet isn't supporting an OS that's a year out from release.

On my 10th attempt to reinstall GW2 on the PC it previously ran on, that now has windows 11. Installer stalls out at 16% and then stops.

Its a launcher that downloads 40+ gb of files. If it stops along the way... that sounds more like a connection issue cutting out after a while and not being able to resume download (what happens when restarting the launcher)? Alternatively a folder access problem so it cant download files.

Windows 11 can run GW2 just fine in general, pretty certain a ton of players have it.

Something is definitely up with reinstalling this game. Initial install and download went smoothly, 80mb/s most of the time. After uninstalling a while ago and trying to reinstall today, it's been a nightmare to get it to download properly. Resorted to downloading it on Steam to get the bulk of the game files downloaded, but the remaining files that needed downloading from the GW2 launcher have been crawling at 100kb/s most of the afternoon.

"Crawling" tends to be a result of not network speeds, but of your system's ability to process the "diff" style patching employed by the game as it unpacks the main data file, applies a file patch, then repacks the data file.  You'll know this by the large number of files the launcher reports.  That comes down to your CPU speed and disk I/O and security settings.

DNS issues could also cause strange behavior.

Windows has been a pita lately.  Some semi-recent patches "improved security" and turned on some related features for fresh installations of Win11 and it's been buggy.  For example there's now an acknowledgement this week that Windows 11 is still having problems with TPMs on AMD systems.

There are some things you'll want to try:
- Check filesystem permissions.
- Turn off third-party anti-virus scanning.
- Set your DNS servers to Google's and flush your DNS cache.
- Add "-clientport 80" or "-clientport 443" to the command line.

Unless something drastic has happened with windows though in the last month, I've not changed anything between my last install which was over and done in about 20 minutes end to end and this attempt to install which took almost an hour in the launcher after Steam's 60gb download finished.

DNS is pointing to Cloudflare and flushed, SSD is a gen 4 m.2 and cpu is a 7700x. Can't imagine it's a hardware issue, people seem to have similar experiences specifically doing a reinstall.

Did you try the command line arguments and turn off anti-virus?

Another issue is sometimes when installing into the default Program Files directory, security settings may cause permission problems.  Also have seen people installing GW2 into a temp folder that gets cleaned up by the operating system and causes corruption to the game.

The other poster mentioned a fresh installation of Win11 which is why I brought up the AMD/Win11 issue.  That may or may not apply to you.

Thanks, did all above and it didn't work at first, but I kept changing the launcher language from top left of the launcher,
between EN / FR and back again everytime the download dropped to 0kb/s  and it seems to have somehow worked.
Download remaining reseted to 0% everytime when changing the launcher languages, but atleast the files remaining was going down and the game has now completely downloaded, and is playable.
