Intel or AMD ddr5 prefer. You will have a very hard time to find any benchmark that are dedicated to test hardware components with GW2 as the main game. The closest you will probably get are games like Fortnite (MMO), but those games are using a different engine and might not reflect how GW2 engine will work in different load situations (high number of player on same map or instance). The base here is to compare same hardware where only one component change (CPU) and in case of CPU you will see more of changes in FPS on lower resolution (that is why most CPU benchmarks make use of 1080P as main resolution and only show 1440P and 4K as reference to confirm what performance one can expect as one step up in resolution as more work load will move onto GPU). To make it clear; with RayTracing and also upscaling technologies this might not be completely as straight forward as RT can also add more work load that needs to be processed on CPU before GPU can render its frame and send it to display. As for GW2 we are now moving on from the older DX9 API to DX11 API which also might change how hardware will be effected. More effort are being made from Nvidia and AMD on driver side to keep the latest games up to date and work with the latest cards (which means that DX9 will not get many dedicated updates, if any, if it isn't because there are some serious issues that need to make newer generation video cards and CPU able to play those games). Right now we are in DX12 as for the latest API on hardware and software level (driver/games), so DX 11 isn't the main target for drivers, but not in the same state as DX9 games. Back to your main question: what CPU and GPU will work best to keep a stable framerate (around 60 FPS) in more demanding work loads like boss fights with more players around or in WvW? DDR4 vs DDR5 is still not showing extreme difference as for impact on gaming performance, so that is not the most important fact in picking CPU (CPU have memory controller integrated and Intel's Alder Lake and the latest Raptor Lake can both make use of a DDR4 motherboard or DDR5 motherboard, so it is more a matter of motherboard [chipset], for AMD it is depending in AM4 (which is based on DDR4) and AM5 (which is pure DDR5 motherboard [and their chipset]). You can read up about this if you use search term "DDR4 vs DDR5 benchmark" or "DDR4 vs DDR5 gaming" on web or Youtube. The most cost efficient CPU will be the higher midrange offer from Intel and AMD. AMDs Ryzen 5 5800X3D is popular as it have larger cache then the non-3D versions and run on AM4 platform (DDR4). The main problem with 5800X3D is that at least here where I live cost much more then then non-3D versions (around 4200 SEK) and for that money you can as well get an Intel 12th (Alder Lake) or 13th generation (Raptor Lake) that will work better in more all around performance and not only in games. AMDs AM5 CPU aren't bad, but the main problem is the cost of motherboards (to some extent same problem if you want a Z chipset motherboard as you will need Z690 chipset or Z790 chipset to be able to overclock K series Intel CPU like 12600K or 13600K). The cheaper chipset with B like B660 will only let your overclock RAM and not directly change clock on CPU) this again might depend on motherboard vendor. To sum it up: for GW2 on hardware side you will have to look at the performance from other MMOs that have been used in benchmarking CPUs and GPUs from there make your own conclusion what to expect. Remember different engines and even changes in how DX11 API have been utilised might also have an impact in games that you can not know about until you will see those changes used in game. Driver updates might improve or sometimes even make performance worse, so there is not a clear answer to give here. AMDs FSR and Nvidias DLSS for upscaling need to be supported in game and as far as I know ArenaNet haven't built in support for upscaling outside of what you see in Options in game (render sampling). RayTracing is not easy to predict for what kind of impact it might have on games that might make use of it as there are different level of how much RT will be used and how much every developer make use of it. In some cases (if one look at UE5 from Fortnite where it is software based RT) it might even tax CPU more then before when most work load from RT was made on GPU with dedicated hardware support and for GW2 which haven't made use of RT (yet) we can not know what it will mean for what CPU that might be best in a couple of years. Getting a CPU that performs well, have a good cooling solution (as all CPU nowadays will reduce clock speed if it reaches a too high temperature and the same for GPUs) is as well important, DDR4 or DDR5 are more depending on motherboard as motherboard cost a lot today for mid- to high end and going cheap here might be not be the best for gaming. Price on DDR5 are still a little higher then on DDR4, but the largest part of price would be motherboard + DDR5 if you would just want to go that path later. Make sure to look up benchmarks and compare different solutions against each other and don't buy into all marketing stuff, but have real world data from benchmark to support your expectation and decision. Get a good case with a front that are open (mesh), have dust filter with good fans for front intake and for PSU instake, get an ATX 3.0 PSU (especially for having 12VPWR cable connector for PCI express cables to GPU follow the new standard for ATX3.0 PSU power delivery) with around or above 800 Watt from a known PSU vendor like Corsair, Seasonic, ASUS and so on that have a good reputation. For GPU it depends on your local price and stock. Go with what you can afford in CPU, GPU, good motherboard to support your needs for connection in form of USBs, Display and other external things you might connect from motherboard (don't forget to check many PWM FAN connectors to save your from getting additional hardware to control fans), have decent onboard audio and Wifi. A case that can be cooled and keep sound from fans. Enough space for 140 mm video cards (motherboard to side panel), can take air coolers as large as 160 mm or above or have space for radiators in front or roof. The most important improvement on GPUs and CPU isn't frames that can be produced, but how much power consumption they make as it is related to heat which in turn will trigger CPU/GPU to clock down to keep temperature within range of what AMD/Nvidia/Intel set for their CPU/GPU. For DDR4 3600MHz seem to be the optimal bandwidth and for DDR5 6000MHz kit should be enough (above that you might have trouble to get that rated speed for stability reason). Check motherboards QVL list for what they have tested and confirmed as working brands and kits. You will find this information if you google motherboard and look up their support section. Here can also download PDF for looking on how fans are supposed to be connected and other information that can be hard to read out of marketing information on motherboards main page. Don't buy the most expensive RAM without checking other users experience for different RAM kits on forums like Toms Hardware, Tech PowerUps etc. Edited January 29 by ShadowCatz.8437
