Question about how common people join the orders of tyria (Whispers, Priory, Vigil)

Hello! I have a lore/role playing question regarding how an average joe or citizen of one of the races can get into the three orders. I know there are recruitment tables and info booths about each order scattered around Tyria, but when asking to join in the open world, they seem to refer to "talk to your mentor" more than anything. This is most likely just because we're the player character, yet the majority of NPCs might not have mentors, and getting into the most promenade orders would be extremely difficult for most common people. I could imagine vigil being more open to accepting anyone, but whispers and priory might be more picky on who gets in or not. Common folk might have enough drive to want to fight the elder dragons, but it seems to be that the orders only take the best and brightest from each race. Let me know your thoughts and opinions if you're interested. Thanks!

In some of the cities the Orders are actively recruiting. If you go from the Wayfarer Foothills entrance to Hoelbrak up the hill towards the bank you'll hear the Vigil recruiter and there's a Priory recruiter on the other side of the Great Lodge. There's someone in the Priory office in Divinity's Reach called Recruiter Levanche. I spoke to her on a brand new low level character (sylvari thief) and when I asked about joining she said "We require our agents to have a certain amount of worldly experience. I'd suggest that you continue on your own path for now. When you're ready I hope you remember your interest in the Durmand Priory." The Vigil recruiters I found said similar things.

So I suspect it's not that dissimilar to how our characters end up joining, or real-life jobs. They're open to taking on new members and may even be going out of their way to recruit them, but they want the right people for the job so any applicant would need some sort of proof of their abilities - someone to vouch for them, evidence of past deeds etc. as well as convincing the recruiter they're sincere about it.

I think you're right that the Vigil would be more open to taking on new recruits (I certainly had an easier time finding Vigil recruiters to talk to), although I imagine they're also then more strict about new recruits proving themselves in the field. I also think the Order of Whispers would be the hardest to join. I imagine that's mainly done via an existing member nominating you, and needing to show you've not only got useful skills but can keep a secret too.

Thank you for your inputs Gibson and Danikat! I think that answers my question well.

I do agree that Sirean and Tybalt aren't the best and brightest, but like with what Danikat mentioned, perhaps they got into their respective orders via recommendations, proof of character, and/or experiences. Guess its like getting an actual job application reviewed and accepted. 📰

Shady Priory dude in human story baited me... expected something interested. Got Dora the Adventurer.

Whispers dude edgy for no reason and we got Tybalt apples... lots of apples 😂

Joined Vigil on 11th character cause why not, wanted to see what happens.

I’ll be curious to hear what you think after. Good luck!
