[Suggestion] New Holiday Festival + New Mystic Clover Recipe

Saint Patrick's Day is coming up and it made me realize that it would be cool to get some sort of Celtic-inspired Sylvari Spring/Equinox Festival. It's been a while since we've seen much new holiday content released and they usually seem to focus especially on Human and Norn culture (I don't think any take place in Black Citadel, Rata Sum, or The Grove?)

With that in mind, I also thought how odd it is that Mystic Clovers can't be crafted with Essence of Luck. The only reason they are even an item in the game is the clover's strong association with luck (and therefore magic) in folklore. It could be a Mystic Forge recipe or maybe a vendor trade like many others that sell Mystic Clovers.

I'd say the cost should look something like this:

2x Mystic Coins

2x Spirit Shards

2x Globs of Ectoplasm

30x Essence of Luck (Exotic)

Limit 10 per week.

Thoughts?

You won’t get a new festival as we are absolutely stacked for festivals already (6 through the year which averages one every 2 months). The Spring festival - although unrelated to Spring in anyway - is coming up in a couple of weeks (SAB) and will be the second festival of the year.

I have no thoughts on your crafting suggestion

So it looks like you've taken the instanced group content clover cost and replaced their currency with essences of luck.

So, are 30 exotic essences of luck the equivalent of 30 magnetite or 150 fractal relics?

Your recipe is certainly a lot cheaper than the Mystic Forge recipe.

Yeah that's what I did. The luck quantity is just a [insert Luck quantity here] really, I don't think there is a great way to objectively assess the relative value of things like Essences of Luck vs. Magnetite Shards vs. Fractal Relics etc.

They're all a lot cheaper than the Mystic Forge recipe but that's why there is a 10/week limit.

Yeah probably not, but it would be cool if we had more festival variety - even just mini-festivald that last a week and only have a few little activities associated with them that could space out the other ones.

To be completely honest, some of the festivals feel small and kind of conspicuously absent from the rest of the world, like the fact that Lunar New Year decorations happen in one specific part of one specific city and otherwise there is no in-world indication whatsoever that it's a holiday, not even on the next street over....or even in New Kaineng!

I think it would have been a good idea to have a festival for each race based on their lore, but I also like that they carried over several of the GW1 festivals and of course those were all human ones. (And some started off as basically copies of the American versions of real-life festivals, especially Halloween and Wintersday, but they gradually got their own lore and identity in the game.)

Now we have 6 festivals, roughly one every other month, I think it would be excessive to add more in (considering we get other releases in between) so adding new ones would mean removing or changing the existing ones. Maybe for example SAB could become a permanent addition instead of a festival, or Dragon Bash and the Festival of the Four Winds could be merged (although that's already a merge of two events), but that might be too much to do at once.

Well, they need to be accessible to all players without access to expansions, but I understand the point. We do have to remember that they are short filler content designed between content drops. Lunar is a bit of a weird one only being a half festival whilst the rest are full ones (albeit missing some of the original year one content - eg Halloween story mode).

Maybe if existing festivals were trimmed a bit it would be less overwhelming to have them more often.

Or just to add annual mini-festivals for the Asura, Charr, and Sylvari to explore more of their peacetime culture in-game without it being a massive undertaking.

Also yeah I have no idea why SAB is an annual festival, it has no holiday flavor. It's neat but I would rather have a proper Spring festival in its place. Idk

It was originally released as an April Fools celebration.

Also, limiting access means it will be full of people for a brief time each year.

I would be down for this ONLY because sylvari are rad and an alternative means of making clovers would be appreciated. However I do acknowledge that we have enough festivals, and having one between NY and SAB practically demands another five to fill in other gaps of the year--something which I guess is possible and would generate more consistent participation, but is also a pretty large ask.

I wouldn't want clovers to require practically the same resources as they already do. Would prefer if we could just trade maybe a full stack of luck for like 7 clovers. And in that respect, if it is luck-based, they could just add that to the NY celebration.

If I remember correctly, GW1 had some mini-festivals, so for a week or so unique drops could be a thing, with of course supporting gem store releases to make it worth ANet's trouble. Turkey drumsticks & cranberry desserts for Thanksgiving, luck & clovers for St Patricks, X-Wings & TIEs for May 4th, that sort of thing.

I think we have the festivals in a pretty nice spot as they are now, anything else and things are going to start over lapping, especially with abets decision on more smaller expansions and content additions. In regards to the clover thing I’d agree luck adding could be an option, however with how easy it is to get I think the cost should be a lot higher, 5 mystic coins, 5 spirit shards, 5 ectos and a stack of exotic for example. That way the ease of getting luck gets balanced out in the cost of the rest compared to other methods of getting clovers.
